Mo Rt to Life goes with Huckabee

Missouri Right to Life, the state’s largest anti-abortion group, just sent out an e-release announcing that it’s endorsing former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee for president.

The group’s board and PAC “after reviewing the candidate’s positions and level of support nationwide and in Missouri, chose to endorse Governor Huckabee over his primary rivals due to his unsurpassed and steadfast support of Pro-Life principles during more than 10 years of public service,” the release says.

“Among Governor Huckabee’s achievements as Lt. Governor and Governor in Arkansas are the following:

  • Passage of the Arkansas Unborn Child Amendment

  • Partial Birth Abortion Ban

  • Parental Notification law

  • Informed Consent (abortion) law

  • Unborn Child Pain Awareness law

  • Safe Harbor law

  • Unborn Victims of Violence law

“In addition, Governor Huckabee was the second governor in the country to sign into law a true ban on Human Cloning, outlawing the creation and destruction of living human embryos for research,” the release continued. It noted that a similar ban in Missouri “has been a major priority for MRL despite fierce opposition.

“Governor Huckabee states that he also is opposed to embryonic stem cell research.

Governor Huckabee has publicly committed to doing more than just nominating judges opposed to Roe vs. Wade:

“ ‘What I accomplished as Governor proves that there is a lot more that a pro-life President can do than wait for a Supreme Court vacancy, and I will do everything I can to promote a pro-life agenda and pass pro-life legislation. If I am saddled with a Democrat Congress, I’ll veto any pro-abortion legislation they pass. I will staff all relevant positions with pro-life appointees. I will use the Bully Pulpit to change hearts and minds, to move this country from a culture of death to a culture of life. I have no desire to throw women in jail, I just want to stop throwing babies in the garbage.’ ”

Wonderful! I’m excited about the prospect of a statesman who is running this year! Mike Huckabee is the real deal… He has my vote!

There is no doubt that Huckabee is the most pro-like candidate in this race. He is also the only candidate with good ideas for the economy, at least that is how he came across on the debate last night. Like he said, instead of borrowing money from China in order to give $600 to every U.S. tax payer so they can go out and buy a bunch of Chinese goods, how about investing that money in U.S. infrastructure in order to create new jobs and build this Country up?

I’m really surprised MRL didn’t chose to endorse Clinton or Obama, as in their recent rankings of Missouri legislators, democrats like Joan Bray who favor abortion on demand were ranked higher than republicans like Delbert Scott who have consistently supported a pro-life agenda. Their endorsement of Huckabee has me leaning toward another candidate.

MRL has really gone off the deep end, and is considered a joke at the capitol. Word has it that a prominent republican senator told MRL what he thought of their rankings and banned them from his office.

F. Rodney: Pro-life includes more than being anti-abortion. The rankings included votes on funding cloning via several different mechanisms, too. It’s too bad many otherwise pro-life legislators fell into lockstep with their governor favoring such funding. Now that scientists in Japan and the U.S. have announced that they can make pluripotent stem cells out of ordinary skin cells, without having to farm women for eggs and clone & destroy young human embryos, there should not be any further need for such funding, and the legislators can work on repairing their voting records.
