Native son Bradley decided against Hillary long ago

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

While we wait for the results to come in from New Hampshire, let’s take a closer look at this week’s Barack Obama endorsement by “Crystal City’s favorite son,” former U.S. Sen Bill Bradley.

In a statement Sunday, Bradley bestowed all of the usual plaudits on the sudden Democratic front-runner, crediting Obama with “making idealism a central focus of our politics” said having “enormous appeal to Americans of all ages and backgrounds.”

What the statement did not say, however, is that Bradley has long harbored antipathy for Obama’s chief rival, Hillary Clinton.

Their feud stretches back to 1993, when Clinton was just starting her tenure as First Lady, and Bradley was a U.S. Senator representing New Jersey.

Early on in her husband’s administration, Clinton was pushing Capitol Hill to pass her now infamous health care package. According to Carl Bernstein’s biography of her, A Woman in Charge, Clinton threatened to “demonize” any member of Congress that stood in the way.

That did not sit well with Bradley, then a senior Democrat in the Senate.

“That was it for me in terms of Hillary Clinton,” Bradley told Bernstein many years later. “You don’t tell members of the Senate you are going to demonize them. It was obviously so basic to who she is. The arrogance. The assumption that people with questions are enemies. The disdain. The hypocrisy.”

No wonder Bradley backed Clinton’s main opposition - I guess the only real surprise would have been had Bradley endorsed Clinton.

In other news:

  • You know it’s election time when the dueling tax cuts come out.
  • Primary watch party tonight at Obama’s local headquarters, 1204 Washington Ave.
  • A Clayton man, Bill Hughes, is competing in today’s New Hampshire primary. He’s on the Democratic ballot, between ex-candidate Joe Biden and O.Savior of Minneapolis.
  • Jay Nixon will unveil a campaign finance proposal today.

Wow, I just figured Bradley did this because he wanted to jump on the Charlie Dooley bandwagon. Yep.

Nice spin Jake.
Berstein also writes: “Hillary isn’t demonizing. She attended a women’s prayer group (which included Susan Baker, wife of former Secretary of State James Baker, and Joanne Kemp, wife of former Republican Congressman Jack Kemp) and he writes that her real life education and sense of right and wrong guided her away from rigid ideology and led her to reject politicl dogma of any sort”.

It’s amazing that, no matter how many things are written about Hillary Clinton, quotes attributed directly to her by her own allies, Garrison refuses to believe anything bad about her demeanor.

I’ve got a friend that is Secret Service. He has no problem with any Dem or Republican and the dude is 100X the person I’ll ever be, but he absolutely hates Hillary.

Because he speaks highly of how he has been treated by everyone else in Washington, I find it hard to believe his dislike for her is unfounded. He bluntly states that she is meaner than a wicked witch.

Well Looney….You sure changed my vote. I didn’t know she was like that….I guess I’ll vote for Huckabee. He seems like a nice gentle soft man. Thanks for letting me know how mean she is to her subordinates. The nerve of that woman. Who does she think she is?

Wasn’t trying to change your vote. I know idiots have a low ceiling on their learning capacity. Why would you be different?

For someone that complains all day about how employers treat employees, you of all people should show some respect for a Secret Service agent.
They are asked to voluntarily risk their lives to risk their lives to protect our elected officials and in turn get sh!t on by the likes of Hillary.

I’d be proud of her too Garrison.

I’m sure your SS agent is paid a decent wage, earns benefits and has access to healthcare. Sorry he’s so thin skined.

Remember everyone, much like Hillary Garrison is just that much better than the rest of us. He has our best interests at heart, just like her. How DARE anyone question him OR her becuase they know what’s best for everyone. We should all strive to be just like them, so we can revel in our diversity. (I’m being ironic- I diversity is important, but that doesn’t mean conforming to or agreeing with someone just because they can be the loudest and nastiest)

The reason I don’t like Hillary is the same reason I didn’t like Ashcroft- the arrogance and deep hearted belief that everyone should be and think just like them, because the world would be so much better if people did. And for the record, I’ve spent plenty of time with Ashcroft, so spare me any potential lecture on how good or nice of a man he is. He is just as disingenuous as the jr. senator from NY.

Garrison, you are an idiot. I never said he was thin skinned just that he thinks Hillary is a wicked witch. HE spends time with all of our leaders and she is the only one that treats her protection with disrespect.

I for one would not consider Secret Service a subordinate of GWB, Cheney, Or the Clintons. In fact, I would say they are their superiors.

Looney….If you and your SS friend think alike, that might be part of his problem.
