Nixon proposes limits on legislative, party committees
The day before the Legislature reconvenes and less than a week before the next campaign finance reports are due, Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon is proposing to impose limits on how much legislative and party committees can spend.
In a conference call with reporters, Nixon — a Democrat challenging Gov. Matt Blunt this fall — said that such committees should not be allowed to give larger donations to candidates than individual contributors.
Nixon said his proposals would solve the problems created or exacerbated when the Missouri Supreme Court reinstated campaign donation limits last summer.
Nixon said that state House Minority Leader Paul LeVota will sponsor the proposal.
However, with the GOP in control of both chambers, it’s a given that LeVota may have a bit of trouble getting consideration of the proposal — unless some form of it is tacked onto an expected GOP effort to once again toss out all donation limits.

Hey Jo, what do you think of Virginia Youngs hatchet job on Blunt in today’s article? Is Jay Nixon paying her for campaign ad space?
