Another name — Luetkemeyer — tossed into the 9th District mix

Missouri Director of Tourism Blaine Luetkemeyer, a former Republican legislator from St. Elizabeth, Mo., has announced that he’s joining the crowd of candidates competing for the congressional seat soon to be vacated by fellow Republican Kenny Hulshof.

Here’s Luetkemeyer’s statement, issued Monday night at the Randolph County Lincoln Days celebration in Moberly, Mo.:

“Over the past few weeks I have been overwhelmed by the gracious signs of support from Missourians throughout the Ninth Congressional district. They believe, as do I, that the future of our great state lies beyond the murk of politics and divisive partisanship.

“We believe that the future of America shines brightly with the promise of safe borders, fiscal security, strong national defense and less government waste.

“So tonight, with the support of my family and friends, and with the backing of strong conservatives throughout this state, I announce my candidacy for the United States House of Representatives.

“I look forward to the coming months of talking to voters across the ninth district about my hopes of moving beyond politics and focusing on what matters most to the people of Missouri, a stronger America for generations to come.”

Luetkemeyer served from 1999 to 2005 in the Missouri General Assembly.

Doesn’t he still owe his failed treasurer’s campaign $500,000? How can we expect him to manage our tax dollars properly when he can’t manage his own campaign finances?

Is still going to be paid to be the Tourism Director? Did he go to Moberly on Tourism funds? Someone should check that out. Hint, hint.

And if he did pay off the $500,000 debt how did he do it? Did he use his job connections to the Tourism industry to pay off his bad debt?

I don’t know Luetkemeyer, but I can tell that he will be among the top tier of the Republican hopefuls. In the Treasurer’s contest alluded to by commenters above, Luetkemeyer ran a surprisingly competitive race against the heavily favored (and ultimately successful) Sarah Steelman, running well ahead of well-funded St Louisans Tom Klein and Sen. Anita Yeckel. I think the flack that he has taken in Comments 2 and 3 above (and maybe others yet to come) is a testament that opponents regard Luetkemeyer as a serious contender.

This contest remains wide-open in both major parties. It should be interesting.

Sounds like 2 and 3 might be dome dwellers.

Maybe you should check the MO Ethics website before you post- don’t assume you know the facts.

Mr. Luetkemeyer self funded his treasure’s campign according to the ethics reports he filed. It also showed that the statewide accountant was clonsed at the begenning of 2005. so how do you come across with him still owing money and trying to say that he had the state pay for his trip to moberly?
