Mitt Romney is still speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, telling supporters he will suspend his bid for the GOP nomination.

Locally, his financial consultant for the Midwest, John Hancock, applauded Romney’s decision to put the nation first.

“I applaud his leadership in placing the concerns of the country first. I think he did a very big thing today,” said Hancock.

Will he jump to another candidate? “My inclination would be not to sign up with another presidential campaign,” he said.

Mitt did the right thing. Particularly in the timing allowing McCain to address CPAC at 3 eastern with a much better environment for bridging.

Mitt Romney never wanted to be a spoiler and my hats off to him for doing the right thing.

McCain will now be equally gracious and proceed to consolidate and obtain the nomination. November looks very bright right now!!

All Aboard!

No overt endorsement now, thank you very much!
Gov. Matt Blunt Statement on Gov. Romney’s Announcement

Jefferson City - Governor Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on Governor Mitt Romney’s announcement:

“Obviously I am disappointed because I believe Governor Mitt Romney was the best candidate to bring conservative change to Washington. Governor Romney is a great leader and a tremendous competitor. I am proud to have supported his campaign.

“I have tremendous respect for Senator McCain. He is a revered hero at our shared alma mater, and, in fact, he was the commencement speaker when I graduated the Naval Academy. He is held up as a model of heroic leadership in the face of tremendous adversity.

“I also admire Governor Huckabee. He is an honorable man and a great neighbor to the south. He has obviously captured the aspirations of many, and we share a large number of supporters.

“Melanie and I have enjoyed campaigning with Governor Romney and his wonderful wife Ann. They are both great friends and patriots and we wish them the very best for the future.”

I wish Romney had made that his stump speech all last year. If he had, he’d have been the nominee hands down. The timing is delicious though. There is no way McCain is going to match it for power and emotion when he speaks at CPAC later this afternoon.

Shame on the GOP - we have lost a wonderful candidate. I will not vote for McCain and double that if Rev. Huckabee is on the ticket. I want to be a part of history and will vote for Obama who will beat Hillary. This country is long overdue for a black president.

Centrist, I’ve always appreciated your comments, but that one has left me scratching my head.

Yeah, Mitt the flip-fopper is out, long live McCain the new and improved flip-flopper!

I voted for McCain in 2000, never again! He now openly courts those which he called “apostles of intolerance!” Some people will do anything to be elected, even sleep with apostles of intolerance. Shame on you, Mr. McCain! “Sir, at last, have you no decency?”

So…..

Here’s how you do it add McCain Romney and Huckabee’s votes Now ask yourself How many of Huckabee’s voters sit on their hands instead of voting for McCain. Now add Clinton Obama numbers. You’ll have to get Rove, Cheney and Diebold to steal this election.

May have voted for McCain in 2000 even over Gore. His actions over the past 8 years, sycophantic devotion to an embarrassing administration and party, challenged my view of his character.

Ladies and Gentleman President Mitt (Never woulda worked)
