Lager makes it official: He’s in for treasurer

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Our Jo Mannies had the scoop this weekend: Brad Lager, a young State Senator from northwest Missouri, sent out a release today officially declaring his candidacy for state treasurer.

The Republican from Savannah, Mo. is 32-years-old and, as his announcement notes, is married to his “high school sweetheart” Stephanie.

Lager first made his intentions known over the weekend, at the annual Lincoln Days GOP gathering in Springfield.

He did provide the caveat, however, that he would drop out if the current treasurer, Sarah Steelman, abandoned her bid for governor.

Either way, the pair should not have too much trouble coordinating their campaign efforts - according to the release sent out by Lager, he has, like Steelman, enlisted the help of Axiom Strategies, the consulting firm led by GOP bulldog consultant Jeff Roe.

Right now, Lager is the only Republican in the race. If no more candidates sign-up, Lager will face either Arnold Mayor Mark Powell or Andria Simckes, an attorney from Creve Coeur, in November.

seeing how Roe did such a good job for a job with his last high profile statewide campaign
(Huckabee) one wonders if he is doing this campaign comp. Look for someone with some name recognition to get in soon…

Yes and don’t forget how “well” Roe did with Sandra Thomas’ race. Never has a campaign in Missouri been run faster into the ground.

It’s beyond me why anyone would hire him for anything. What a joke.

I wish Jo would give us a scoop.

Lager first made his intentions known about two weeks ago: http://www.citizen-observer.com/articles/2008/01/28/news/news30.txt

There is another democrat running for Treasurer, May Scheve Reardon, Out of those who have announced she is the best fit for the job. Her background as a State Rep, Former State Party Chair, and now Private Banker gives her the experience and knowledge we need in that position. May has what it takes to bring excitement back to the Democratic Party and the State wide ticket in general. She did great work for the people of this state when she served in the Missouri House, and now its time for her to go back to work for the state as our next State Treasurer.

I think Ms Sheve Reardon would be an optimal choice. The outstate folk will just eat that up!

Brad Lager’s a great guy and would make a great Treasurer. However, Steelman needs to get out of the Governor’s race, but that seems doubtful as I’m sure Roe will want to collect money from two clients vs. just one.
