McCaskill’s Christmas gift to Joyce: An unopposed election?

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

For the first time in her elected career, city prosecutor Jennifer Joyce is looking at the possibility of an uncontested election.

And she may have Missouri’s junior U.S. Senator to thank.

Each of the past two elections, Joyce has been opposed by attorney Jerryl Christmas. Both served as assistant prosecutors under erstwhile Circuit Attorney Dee Joyce Hayes. Both vied to replace their former boss, with Joyce defeating Christmas in 2000, and again in 2004.

Joyce won both elections by a wide, but not overwhelming, margin.

This year, however, it looks like Joyce’s sparring partner will stay out of the fight. Since their last meeting at the polls, Christmas took a job as a Capitol Hill aide for Claire McCaskill.

That gives Joyce, who filed for re-election yesterday, a potentially unfettered path to a third term, which could lead to a wide-open political future: Come 2012, she would have a dozen years of experience under her belt, and still only be in her late 40s.

Come on, Jake … the “we hate white folks” crowd will surely find somebody else who can wear Christmas’s shoes. In fact, one of Christmas’s most vocal supporters, formed talk host Lizz Brown, is an attorney. And there’s always Eric Vickers, it isn’t like he’s busy practicing law.

An unchallenged reelection is more likely the payback that Joyce earned by her office’s involvement in a key issue that swayed just enough voters to Lewis Reed over incumbent Jim Shrewsbury in the aldermanic president race.

Oracle,

I’m intrigued — which issue?

How about developing a “we hate evil and a “we love truth and rightousness” crowd. Think you could stomach such a crowd Nick Kasoff.
