Still’s the one — seeking Baker’s state rep seat

Mary Still, long a key aide to Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon (and who also toiled for a couple years for then-Gov. Bob Holden), has retired from state government and is entering politics.

Still, 54, called this afternoon to say that she’d formed a campaign committee to run as a Democrat for the state House seat in Columbia, Mo., now occupied by Democrat Judy Baker.

Baker has announced she’s running for the congressional seat soon to be vacated by Rep. Kenny Hulshof, R-Columbia, who’s running for governor.

Still said she and her husband, Russell Still, have been active in Columbia. He served a stint on the School Board.

Still said she left state government as of Feb. 1.

Retired from state government at age 54??? If thats a paid retirement we gotta get the law changed! Maybe this term!

She had 30 years in state government, so was eligible for early retirement.

Good, Mary Still will make an excellent representative and will probably end up in leadership before the end of her first term. She’s got the brains and hard to fix the mess that Blunt’s going to leave us in next January.

I don’t think your husband being on the school board qualifies as your personal experience in the community. I have lived in Columbia for nearly 20 years, serving on many boards and working extensively as a volunteer with the public school system, and have only heard of Mary Still because she is married to a former school board member and works in government in Jeff City. Sean Spence, who has not lived here as long as Mary, is more involved in the community than she is having spent a large part of her adult life here. I am not at all excited about a candidate who has spent a large part of her life working as the mouthpiece for the “party line.” I will be supporting Sean Spence.

If you want straight talk, Mary’s the one. She tells it like it is.

Mary Still in the Missouri General Assembly? It would improve the reputation of that body overnight. Mary comes out of the common sense wing of the Dem Party. Imagine Harry Truman in a dress.

Whoever thought all Mary Still has done is be married to a former school board member and work in state government hasn’t been paying attention for more than 25 years. Mary was a leader for both her daughters’ Girl Scout troops, has served her Church in leadership positions, was an active member of the county’s Democratic Central Committee, participated in the recent visioning process, is active in her neighborhood association and has been active in numerous community fund-raising events, including the Blind Boone home restoration. Sure, she has been at the heart of civic-engagement politics through her positions in state government, but understanding the process only strengthens her ability to represent us.

sean spence doesn’t stand a chance against mary still! if they want to compare who has devoted more of their time, energy and life to bettering the 25th district, bring it on! mary still’s career at mizzou & with the state, and all she has done over the last 3 decades with her community, unquestionably trumps anything spence claims he’s done.

I live and work in the Columbia area. I do not know either or the other candidates but let me tell you that I do know Bob Pund.

In my more than 50 years on this planet I don’t believe I have met a more quality person than Bob Pund. He is a brilliant man. He knows more about healthcare and compassion than anyone I have ever met.

Years ago as in medical school a professor told me you would never know it until you lived it. I didn’t know what he meant until I met Bob.

Bob is a real person not a politician. He is a role model for all of us.
