Web Watch: Yes You(Tube) Can

Obama girl. Before that, the 1984 spoof. And perhaps the video that first displayed YouTube’s influence – the “macaca” comment from Virginia more than a year ago.

Those are just a few of the notables from YouTube, an infant in the political arena but one with ever increasing strength. Given the power of social media, we here at Political Fix will be monitoring the Internet buzz and from time to time passing on the election-related highlights.

And now the first installment:

  • A video inspired by Sen. Barack Obama’s concession speech after the New Hampshire primary is consistently generating the most buzz among political new media. Since it was released at the beginning of this month and posted in multiple places, it has about 12 million hits. That’s more eyeballs than a week’s worth of the New York Times. 

  • It spawned this quick-hitting spoof that has spread quickly in its own right. Has more than 800,000 since being added this week.

  • Here’s yet another spoof, this one by the folks who created Obama girl.
