Another son rises: Mike Roberts Jr. challenges Storch
State House Dems recently tapped Rep. Rachel Storch to help them regain majority status in Jefferson City.
But she might have to worry about her own seat first.
Storch, seeking her third term, drew a primary challenge this afternoon frrom Mike Roberts Jr., the scion of wealthy developer Michael V. Roberts Sr.
The older Roberts, along with brother, Steve, hold the strings on an empire that includes hotels, lofts and a downtown theater. Both Roberts also served at City Hall as aldermen in the 1980s - Mike in the 19th Ward, and Steve in the 20th Ward.
Now Mike Jr. hopes to make it to Jeff City.
This should be a real fun race to watch - not only will Mike Jr. have access to his family’s wealth and political Rolodex, but there also might be a proxy battle at play.
Anyone who passed the Roberts Mansion at Lindell and Kingshighway last month knows the brothers are big Barack Obama supporters.
Storch, meanwhile, was the state director for the Hillary Clinton campaign.

While I have never met Mike Jr, if he is anything like his father, we should be so lucky to have someone like him in the state legislature.
Rachel Storch has done a disservice to the district, failing to get anything done in the House, while running off on fool’s errands (such as serving as Hillary Clinton’s state director) that go contrary to the interests of our district. Her lack of local ties and weakness was exposed when Hillary lost the district.
I’m looking forward to hearing more from Roberts Jr. in the future.
