Congressional field trip offers homecoming for Waters
U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters - a city native and Vashon High grad - will be here this weekend for a Congressional field hearing that explores the use of federal development dollars.
Waters, chair of the Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity, grew up in St. Louis, one of 13 children raised by a single mother.
Waters will join U.S. Rep. Lacy Clay at City Hall on Saturday at noon to examine the distribution of block grant and affordable housing funds in St. Louis. Congressman Al Green, a Democrat from Texas, is also expected to attend.
The hearing is titled “The Use of Federal Housing and Economic Development Funds in St. Louis: From ‘Team 4′ Into the Future,” a reference to the report that some believe created a path for inequities between north and south St. Louis. (Antonio French has much, much more detail about this at his blog, PubDef.)
One interesting political sidebar to the hearing: Waters comes to town a vocal supporter of Hillary Clinton, while Clay has been just as adamant in his support of Barack Obama.

Maxine Waters and Lacy Clay … now THERE are a couple of brilliant legislators that really make you proud of our political system.
