Deputy sheriffs’ group endorses Koster for AG

The Missouri Deputy Sheriffs’ Association announced Thursday that it’s endorsing state Sen. Chris Koster, D-Harrisonville, for state attorney general.

The group praised Koster’s past as Cass County’s prosecuting attorney, a post that he held for 10 years.

Koster previously has garnered the support of the Missouri Fraternal Order of Police, and the Missouri State Council of Firefighters.

“Due to Senator Koster’s law enforcement experience and his historic support of law enforcement…[the] Missouri Deputy Sheriffs’ Association announces its endorsement of Senator Chris Koster for the elected State office of Attorney General,” said David Boehm, president of the Missouri Deputy Sheriffs’ Association.

The Missouri Deputy Sheriffs’ Association was organized in 1988 to represent the interests of sheriffs and deputies across Missouri.

Koster, who switched political parties last August, is competing against state Reps. Jeff Harris of Columbia and Margaret Donnelly of Richmond Heights for the Democratic nomination for attorney general. Both also have collected numerous endorsements.

Yawn. Koster’s endorsements are ultimately meaningless and are not indicative of actual support, similar to his lack of support in fundraising that comes from few individuals (eg Rex Sinquefield). Honestly, I’m surprised he’s still in the game. I guess all that money from Sinquefield is proving beneficial after all.

This is actually a meaningful endorsement. The deputies do the heavy lifting of law enforcement, so I’m thinking they recognize someone else who has done similar heavy lifting. A decade as a prosecuting attorney would qualify. I would like to know the specific criminal trial courtroom experience of all four candidates for attorney general. I realize the AG him/herself may not always do the courtroom arguing, although it does and has happened, especially in death penalty cases. But his assistants answer to and represent him, and courtroom criminal case prosecutorial experience does seem at least as relevant as other public service that is cited on all of the candidates’ resumes.

Interesting, given Koster did not bother to vote on their pay raise bill during perfection.

Well, I guess the Koster people are finally starting to understand that prosecutorial experience is not important for an AG. Perhaps next they will realize that these endorsements are fairly insignifigant as well, considering a lot these deputy sheriffs will likely vote for Donnelly or Harris, regardless of what the higher ups say (keep that in mind in regards to the Union endorsements as well).

Wow, the Harris/Donnelly team are really working overtime. Thier message seems to be, the less experience, less money and fewer endorsements the better.

According to the couple (Jeff and Margaret) experience does not matter - because Jeff’s only experience is working for sombody else and Margraret is a life long divorce lawyer. Koster spent years working in the Attorney General’s office. He spent 10 years as a prosecutor in a county that is all Democrats (anyone know who Ike Skelton is). Now he has served for 4 years in the State Senate.

Also, according to the H/D team, now endorsements don’t matter (see above) - again - because Jeff and Margaret don’t have as many as Koster. Police, Sheriffs, Firefighters, Prosecutors and Labor all are endorsing Koster in a BIG, BIG way. These are real Democratic organizations. These are the core of the Democratic party.

Koster has the i) most experience, ii) has raised the most money, iii) has the most statewide support and iv) is the only candidate with a chance to win in November.

Koster’s ability to politick with any issue is definitely unparralled in the AG race, adn in that regard Jack is correct in claiming Koster is the most experienced. MPN had a nice story on Koster’s bill to raise sheriff salaries last week which basically said Koster’s move in filing the bill was purely political.

Get real: Koster is NOT a democrat!

IF Koster is “not a democrat!” why does he have more support on both sides of the state? Why does he have more endorsements? Why have the police, firefighters, sheriffs and labor unions all supported Koster?

Where I grew up these organizations have always been real democratic organizations.

I think Koster is a real democrat.

Before his “reincarnation” Koster was one of the chief ringleaders of the Medicaid cuts, and one of the most vocal supporters of the Voter ID movement. Hardly Democratic issues or values. I’m not convinced, and certainly not swayed by a bunch of firefighters or cops. No…he’s not a Democrat, he’s an opportunist.

You must be very excited to vote in your first election. As you grow up and learn about the cornerstones of the Democratic Party I am sure you will become a productive member of the party. At that point in time, I am sure AG Koster or Governor Koster will welcome you into the party with open arms.
