Hubbard ad highlights connections to Smith, Obama

Rodney Hubbard’s push to earn enough money to appear on the air seems to have worked: the State Senate hopeful hit the small screen last night, even though filing in his race has not closed yet.

Hubbard’s commercial was shown in the city several times on CNN and MSNBC during last night’s primary election coverage.

The 30-second spot seeks to show Hubbard reaching across racial and partisan lines, a smart move if Hubbard, a Carr Square resident, wants to branch out to parts of the district that are beyond his base. (a.ka. Tom Villa territory.)

“No matter where they’re from,” Hubbard tells us, “people want the same things.”

The spot shows Hubbard standing next to State Sen. Jeff Smith, and highlights Hubbard’s support of his “friend” Barack Obama.

Not a bad looking spot … but next time, record the audio in a studio, not in your unfinished basement.

Nice shots and crappy audio= bad spot. Why spend any money if it’s going to look and sound like that? It never ceases to amaze me that some politicians think that that commercial is a stellar example of a good and effective spot.

Isn’t Jeff Smith supposed to be neutral? I know he was at Hubbard’s kick-off for the senate and I thought that was a mistake if he doesn’t want to attract enemies for his next race. Smith doesn’t even represent the 5th senate district. He should go back to his garage.

By tradition only Chuck Grham has to be neutral because he is in charge of the Senate democrats political operation. It is a mistake for Smith to not be neutral but it isn’t a violation of caucus rules.

almost a million people have donated to Obama. Yet Rodney cant help a brother out… sad.

Jeff Smith was also at Robin Wright-Jones’ fundraiser.

People running for office often put other elected officials in their mail and ads without their permission. Nothing new here.

In the interest of fairness, Hubbard should also point out his close connection to House Speaker Rod Jetton who thinks poor Missourians are lazy and Matt Blunt, enough said. Hubbard will not win this race and everyone knows it. He can’t answer the tough questions. He is worthless and a very scary candidate.
