State Rep. Rodney Hubbard says he was the target of racial intimidation in a lunchtime incident at Soulard today.

After media inquiries, Hubbard’s campaign released a statement saying that Hubbard was at Johnny’s on Russell Boulevard, eating lunch with his twin brother,Rontonyo Hubbard-Bey, and businessman Sam Salama, who owns a market near Hubbard’s home in Carr Square.

According to the statement, shortly after their arrival, two “visibly intoxicated” male patrons told them that they were in a “white bar.”

Hubbard, according to the statement from his campaign, left the restaurant and called police form outside.

“It is ironic that just one day after Sen. Barack Obama reminded the nation that its racial wounds have not yet healed, that I am personally reminded that our city’s racial divide is still very much alive,” Hubbard said in the statement.

“I know that the actions of these two men are not indicative of the vast majority of people,” Hubbard stated, ”but if an elected official like myself, a businessman like Mr. Salama, or a man like my brother experience this kind of blatant discrimination in 2008, it is clear we still have a lot of work to do.”

Police would not reveal details of the incident, but did confirm there was a “disturbance call” made and at least one summons for disturbing the peace issued.

We’ll post more info on this episode as it comes available.

UPDATE:

The owner of the tavern, the eponymous Johnny Daus, says his staff have informed him that there were no racial comments directed at the Hubbard brothers or Salama. Daus was in the restaurant at the time, but in the downstairs office.

“I have two girls who were standing there the whole time and say nothing like that was said,” Daus said.

Rodney Hubbard is married. His lovely wife Shameem Clark-Hubbard is the chair of his well respected and politically correct ” Women for Hubbard ” Committee. A committee comprised of American women; Black, White, Christian, Muslim and others. As a candidate for Missouri State Senate, Mr. Hubbard should feel comfortable patronizing establishments in this state regardless of their location, staff or clientele. If Mr. Hubbard consistently dined at northside, downtown, high-end or minority restaurants and clubs, no doubt everyone would have a problem with that. Mr. Daus’ response was cowardly. However it is his problem that he chose to deny the allegations as opposed to taking a stance that could set a standard for acceptable behavior in his popular south-side establishment. Ultimately, this will be his loss. With regards to Barack Obama. Rodney Hubbard has been a staunch supporter and that support pre-dates Mr Obama’s decision to run for President. For those of you posting on this blog, please get your facts straight before you disseminate inaccurate and harmful information. If Mr. Hubbard wins this election, many of you will be first in line smiling in his face and asking for favors. More power to the Hubbard power train!!!

Your absolutely right Dori Ewell. One can imagine that Rodney Hubbard’s wife is lovely, and his previous wives were likely lovely too. However, his wives were not the customers in Johnny’s, Rodney Hubbard was the customer. Many people say that visiting Johnny’s too often can lead to divorce-just ask Rodney. He has the divorce proceedings conquered!

By the way, are you saying that the Women for Hubbard organization comprised of blacks, whites, Christians and etc., support the actions of Rodney Hubbard going to T&A bars with half naked women prancing around. That is one hell of a women’s organization if they do!

While were on the subject of women and wives, most husband’s with lovely, well respected wives avoid T&A bars during the lunch hour and after the lunch hour. If they do decide to frequent a business establishment with half naked women, they don’t run out and call the police for help when the action gets too hot! Can’t stand the heat, stay out of Johnny’s.

Lastly, Senator Barack Obama had no idea that while he was out campaigning hard to win the Presidential election, Rodney Hubbard was in Johnny’s with half naked white women. If it is an all white bar, the women must have been white. Dori you may want to jump off that train, but it depends on what type of power you are seeking.

But racist generalizations will be tolerated?

Facts, not generalizations. There is a big difference. Keep your mumbo jumbo to yourself. #35

Nobody on here is saying that 100% of the blacks are trouble, only about 50-75% cause trouble and crimes.

Keep my “mumbo jumbo” to myself? I can’t decide what is funnier, you denying my right to an opinion on the subject or the term “mumbo jumbo”.

So, what you are saying is that #24’s statement (below) is “fact”.
“Unfounded fear, sheesh! The Blacks will rip you blind and shoot you for a quarter.

Where is your data to back up your “fact” that 3 out of 4 black folks are the cause of trouble and crimes? Or even 1 of 2?

Those indeed are not facts, they are generalizations. Generalizations that have no basis in fact. Scott, I truly am sorry that you are so ignorant to make the statement that you did.

You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to compare crime statistic numbers for the inner black city to the white suburbs to see a dramatice rise in crimes.

Why is East St. Louis the most dangerous city in the US? Are there any whites who live there?

Just tune in the local news at 5 and you tell me where do all the shootings occur each day? North St. Louis. There is nothing you can deny about it.

How many shootings/killings occur in the suburbs….very little if not none.

And who resides in the suburbs, oh I don’t know, uh, maybe the whites? Oh yeah, that’s right. I don’t see any blacks in the suburbs except working fast food.

Let’s ask Joe Mokwa….I’m sure he would agree.

Again, these are generalizations. You have no figures to back up what you write about. Who stated East St Louis was the most dangerous city? Based on what crime stats?
Again, where are your stats? Show me one or two sources that back up what you are saying?

Really, what a news source picks to show you is hardly relevant? Anyone here who complains about the Post’s coverage of politics will back that up.

How many killings occur in the suburbs? Let’s see…there was that Post reporter whose killer appeared on the front page today. Both white, by the way.
Ummm…the handful of campus shootings. None in the inner city. All done by non-African Americans.

That’s just some off the top of my head to refute your “very little if none” statement. Again, where is your data to back up your “fact” that 3 out of 4 black folks are the cause of trouble and crimes? Or even 1 of 2? I’m from Missouri. You have to show me!
