Hubbard seeking cash for TV time tonight

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Five months before Election Day, Rodney Hubbard is hoping to make an early splash on the small screen.

Hubbard’s campaign sent an e-mail to supporters on Monday, seeking enough contributions to buy time during tonight’s primary election coverage on CNN and MSNBC.

It’s an interesting play - I’m not sure I’ve heard of a State Senate candidate buying television airtime, let alone before the filing for the office even closes.

Maybe Hubbard’s aim isn’t so much to reach voters, but to make an impression on local Democrats up late watching the results come in.

And if he doesn’t raise enough money, there’s always YouTube.

gee, Jo, would you have given me a nice post like this if I had bought radio time the days before, of, and after filing day for the very same reasons? I that’s right, I did. :) and you didnt. :)Do you think my man Rodney got the idea from me? enjoy day; working from home, I hope. 3 substitute days in the SLPS (where I work when no work at other 3 jobs) snowed out this year; there goes my campaign money.

whoops, Jake, not Jo; or as they say, the “other Jo”; my bad. or is she “the other Jake”? I get so confused. saw her name on following post, but that’s no excuse. But my question remains the same. :)

The only thing unusual is how early in the campaign the tv buy is. It’s not at all unusual for a state senate candidate to buy air time on StL television. Hubbard’s buy appears to be just for cable, which can be localized very economically. I recall Scott Rupp running tv commercials for his special election in his district in St Chas and Lincoln Counties. I believe both Joan Bray and her Republican opponent bought air time in their 24th District clash in 2002. I don’t recall whether either Mike Gibbons or Jeanne Kirkton bought time for their 15th District contest in 2004, but I’ll bet we’ll see plenty of commercials later this year to fill that open seat. And guys like me can only hope that Gina Loudon will appear in lots of tv commercials this summer!

To appear credible, he should purchase newspaper advertising. In addition, 67% of Missouri’s daily newspaper readers voted in the last election.
