Hulshof agrees to televised debate this summer in Springfield

U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof, R-Columbia and a candidate for governor, announced this afternoon that he “has accepted an invitation to debate Sarah Steelman in Springfield this summer.

“A coalition of KYTV, the Springfield News-Leader, Ozarks Public Television and KSMU radio have extended the invitation for a prime time debate in early July,” the release said.

Hulshof said in a statement, ‘Open debates are a fundamental tool in our political system. They provide one of the best ways for voters to gain an understanding of each candidate’s values and priorities. I look forward to debating the issues that matter most to Missourians.’

In the statement, Hulshof also called for “multiple debates in the coming months. ‘It’s important that Missourians across the state have plenty of opportunities to hear from each candidate. The unfiltered give-and-take in a debate will go a long way in helping Missourians cast informed ballots in August.’ ”

Hopefully Steelman will prepare by briefing herself, instead of relying on hand-me-down misinformation from her low-level staffers. If so, maybe she won’t have to result to exaggeration & lies to get her points across…

Smart move by Hulshof. As a former prosecutor and someone who regularly makes public speeches in Congress, he should do well. Steelman on the other hand has a lot of prep work ahead of her. Anyone who has heard her make a prepared speech at Lincoln Days or other various events knows how painful it can be. Nevermind when she has to think on her feet and speak. Good luck Sarah, you’re gonna need it.

What can Sarah’s handlers be thinking? Hulshof will kill her in a live debate (although, being a Kenny supporter, I’m looking forward to it). She should stick to the Treasurer’s office where hubby David can just dictate to her what she should do.

In other news the Cards will be playing the Chesterfield T-Ball team in an exhibition game the day after this debate. The T-Ball team is getting better odds than Sarah though.

Kenny does lead the leage in overturned Murder Convictions….he’s quite a prosecuter lol!Reminds me of Tino Martinez’s time with the Cardinals. Overrated & very forgettable.
