Lions club: Three senior Dems highlight Jeff-Jack dinner
A trio of three former members of Congress highlight the Missouri Democratic Party’s annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner next month.
Speaking under the the theme of “Legacy of Leadership,” this year’s edition of the gala will feature a former U.S. Senator, Jean Carnahan, and two past U.S. Reps. From St. Louis - Dick Gephardt and Bill Clay.
Other “special guests” include two more Carnahans (siblings Robin and Russ) and a Clay scion. (U.S. Rep. Lacy Clay.)
Also expected to attend are two other congressmen - Ike Skelton and Emanuel Cleaver - two former governors - Bob Holden and Roger Wilson - as well as Claire McCaskill, Francis Slay, Charlie A. Dooley and Auditor Susan Montee.
The dinner is April 5, at the America’s Center downtown.
With the Democratic presidential primary figuring to still be up in the air by then, it could be interesting having that mix of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama supporters breaking bread together.
Even if the supporters of the two camps put aside their differences for the evening, it seems organizers wanted to make sure patrons remembered this is an election year - the cost for sponsoring an entire table is $2,008.

Three Carnahans to an important Democratic function? Dems are living in the past. One Carnahan never won an elective office in her life. A second Carnahan recently became involved in a sham “marriage”. And the third Carnahan, a current U.S. Congressman, really isn’t as smart as a fifth grader, or even a five year old, as both have the ability to recite their own names in public without looking down to peer at a notecard in their hand, a talent our current Congressman lacks, along with many others too numerous to mention.
