Many races uncontested as deadline nears
Tomorrow could be Election Day for more than one-third of the members of the Missouri House.
So far, about 60 of the 163 House races feature only one candidate, according to the list on file with the Secretary of State’s office.
Filing ends at 5 p.m. Tuesday, so if there’s no stampede in the next 25 hours, those contests will be all but over.
Competition is a little healthier on the Senate side, where only four of the 34 races are uncontested so far.
The lack of challenges comes despite a legislative pay raise slated to take effect next year, the first boost since 2004. Under a recommendation of the state’s Commission on Compensation, the annual salary for a part-time legislator’s job is expected to rise to $35,915, up from $31,351.

Virginia - I think your math on the Senate race might be a bit fuzzy…
Does anyone know who it is that is filing against Jason Crowell? I know that it’s another Republican and heard that it is Lloyd Smith but I can’t confirm. Surely one of you politicos that reads this knows.
Yes Regulator, I heard that it was Lloyd Smith. Surely someone will challenge him.
Yeah, Lloyd Smith will run against Crowell, when hell freezes over.
According to the Secy of State’s list, only a Democrat has filed against Cromwell. That person is Linda Sanders of Jackson.
I look forward to the State Senate–7th! Who will be the most cannabalized?
Gee, where are all the Democrat Kirkwood residents screaming the “Democracy is falling” because there is no choice in candidates to vote for. There is only one county city with a contested race for mayor. That’s just the way it is sometimes.
“Centrist” to compare apples to apples, you have to wait until filing closes then have a contested race opponent get murdered, THEN tell the electorate …..
sorry too bad so sad.
How could anyone expect to run against Tod Akin and win??
Get real.
Never even heard of the Democratic nominees..Who are they?
