Special guest at Segway hearing: Chet Pleban

How’s this for a special guest at today’s Segway hearing: bulldog attorney Chet Pleban, the same barrister employed by Jay Nixon’s e-mail probe of the governor’s office.

Pleban was at City Hall today, representing a private Segway tour company whose business was threatened by a bill that would give the Science Center a leg-up on taking the two-wheel electronic chariots in Forest Park.

The firm, Glide St. Louis Tours, has not filed a lawsuit, and they may not need one. Pleban’s mere presence at a hearing today may have been enough to defeat the bill.

With the tenacious lawyer watching, the aldermanic Parks Committee refused to approve the bill, much to the chagrin of sponsor Lyda Krewson.

The city police stationed at the airport ride Segways. I just wonder if they will be subject to this fee. Or, are we creating special cases for the police and the Science Center?
