Steelman: Send that campaign cash fast
State Treasurer Sarah Steelman sent a note to supporters this week, hoping for their campaign donations - and soon.
Vying for the GOP’s nomination for governor, Steelman’s letter emphasized to backers that she’d like their checks before the end of the month.
And just in case donors didn’t get the message in the body of the letter, Steelman made her pitch again in a postscript.
“P.S. Please remember to send your …. contribution in before March 31st,” Steelman writes.
Why the rush for an election still five months away?
March 31 marks the final day that donations can be made that show up on the campaign finance report due in April.
Steelman might be facing pressure from within her party to avoid a messy primary fight with the other Republican running for governor, U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof. A strong fundraising quarter could help convince some in the state’s party establishment - many who are backing Hulshof - that Steelman deserves to stick around.
