Alderman wants “Georgia’s Way” downtown
Georgia Frontiere — the former weather girl and nightclub singer who brought the Rams to St. Louis — was remembered as a woman who, in the ever-exclusive boy’s club of NFL owners, did things her way.
Frontiere could soon have her way permanently — right in front of the team she loved.
Alderman Phyllis Young is sponsoring a bill that would rename Sixth Street at Convention Plaza — right in front of the Dome — “Georgia’s Way,” in memory of Frontiere, who died at the age of 80 in January.
The timing of the effort coincides not only with the renewed optimism from this weekend’s draft, but also the visit of Frontiere’s son and daughter - Chip Rosenbloom and Lucia Rodriguez, the team’s new majority owners - to City Hall last Friday.
Young, whose ward includes all three downtown stadiums, is the go-to official for honoring sports heroes: She’s renamed streets for wingers (”Brett Hull Way”), sluggers (”Stan ‘The Man’ Musial Drive”), shot callers (”Jack Buck Way”) and rollers (”Dick Weber Lane,” next to the Bowling Hall of Fame).
