Blunt to run again — in St. Louis marathon

Shaking off the jet lag from his trip overseas, Gov. Matt Blunt announced this week that he’s ready to go the distance again in the St. Louis Marathon.

As reported earlier in our Jog Blog, Blunt and his staff, for the second year in a row, will participate in the marathon’s relay competition, where four runners divide up the 26. 2 mile route.

In addition to the governor, the “Running With Blunt” team includes:

  • John Russell, deputy chief of staff
  • Rich Chrismer, communications director
  • Mary Craven, an aide to Melanie Blunt

Last year, we’re told, the governor’s team finished with a time of 3:29:32, giving them a pace of just under eight-minute miles.

I would have hoped for a better turnout. I thought St. Louis was such a giving, charitable place to live and a sports town who well supports their teams.

I was hoping to get strike up more enthusiasm from sponsors and candidates alike. With only one candidate coming forward, maybe this is not the appropriate forum. The media could assist with this endeavor I could only hope.

As far as Bill’s willingness to participate with an injury no less, we all find that commendable. This marathon would not have to be scheduled for this weekend by all means. We could do some planning and schedule it for May, but we DO need more supporters and participants to make this work.

So if anyone in the media or elsewhere would like to participate, please communicate it to others not necessarily on this blog and we can get this off the ground.

well, this blog might not be that widely read, Ann, but just a question.
Is your offer of $1000 for a congressional candidate who matches Blunt’s participation, or otherwise participates in the marathon day, still good or not. Might affect might interest in the 6 hours of adventure.
as I’ve said, if wish to make good on your offer, may email me, or commit to donating the money on my website if I do it, and need to clarify how many miles I’m committed to to do my part.
thanks, Bill
I guess I’ll wait to hear from you before clarifying any arrangement with the media.
I hoped they give it some publicity that might help it spread.
If you email me, I’ll give you my media email list, it’s extensive, which when they hear from you might help them publicize it!
If I may suggest a clarification on your offer:
“any congressional candidate that completes a leg on a marathon relay or 1/2 marathon on their own this sunday, will participate in sharing your $1000 and any other money offered by others to congressional or other candidates. So if I’m the only one, I can live with that.
To collect, candidates would have to notify you by email or on this thread prior to the marathon day to be eligible.”
how does that sound?
thanks, best, Bill

Please remove Donald Trump’s mug advertisement on the opening screen.

Who would want to take advice from somebody who went bankrupt twice and can’t even acquire a decent hairpiece?

Tim, my brother, I respect your right to support Akin. He’a a nice guy and has served his country well, as will I. And those 50,000 children in Missouri dont really need their health-care anyhow. Where do they think they are, America? or as my website will soon say, if you or someone you love ever lose their health care, you dont want Todd Akin in Congress representing you. He’s more about politics than people. Glad you have yours tho, Tim; hope you dont lose it; running 1/2 marathon sunday, I hope, with or without Ann’s promised money; welcome to join me; then you wont need insurance as much.

Where is the marathon being held?

What are your strategies and proposals for increasing healthcare coverage?

starts at 18th and market I believe, ends near there; goes down by the brewery and back then up market to forest park; 1/2 marathon turns around about newstead, full marathon keeps going around the park.
a lot of the lead on health-care will be taken by the president of course;
and health-care a complicated topic I dont pretend to be an expert on, tho smart enough to be one and I will;
but as far as I know now, for several years I’ve been a Single Payer advocate, Conyers/Kucinich Bill, covers everyone, reduces overhead 15% or so, that almost makes it pay for itself, business and employees will be less, roll back the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy makes up the difference, ballpark. the only ones hurt are pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies; all other businesses will be for it, even Walmart;; not socialized medicine, as medicare isnt; single payer is the same as medicare for all. this plan better than that of all the candidates’ because single payer gets the canard, false charge, of being socialized medicine, which is what pharmaceuticals and insurers and their rich republican campaign recipients call it.
thanks for asking; have you been to my website runbillrun.com?
website being redone, people will be able to give feedback on the issues; until then welcome your views at website email;
best, Bill
