Bush host generous to both sides of the aisle

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

David Steward may be opening up his business to the commander-in-chief, but, when it comes to opening up his checkbook, Steward does not play favorites.

On Friday, President George W. Bush will visit Steward’s company, World Wide Technology, touring the Maryland Heights headquarters and delivering a speech on the economy.

Though the stop was not easy to arrange - it was originally planned for October, but was bumped by Bush’s trip to see wildfire damage in California - Steward is proof that you don’t have to be a loyal GOP donor to earn a visit from the president.

But it apparently doesn’t hurt to give big to both parties.

Campaign finance records show that Steward has donated more than $65,000 to federal candidates in the last 10 years, giving somewhat equally to both Democrats and Republicans.

Steward has been a supporter of Barack Obama since his 2004 Senate campaign, but he’s also donated the maximum to former Republican presidential contenders Tommy Thompson and Mitt Romney, as well as the presumptive nominee, John McCain.

He did donate $2,000 to Bush’s re-election bid - but not before contributing to Al Gore and a Democratic victory fund in 2000.

OF course it doesn’t hurt, both parties practice pay to play in the Washington arena, then wonder why people don’t care for politics.

I don’t know much about Mr. Stewart, but he seems to be one sharp dude. Why doesn’t he get more pub?

I know Mr. Steward, and he is a wonderful human being.

although, it’s hard to look up to someone that supported George W. Bush in 2004.

A search of the Missouri Ethics Commission site shows that David Steward’s bipartisan political philanthropy also extends to the state level. Since last October he has given to both Jay Nixon and Peter Kinder.

Good for Stewart if he feels Nixon and Kinder are worthy enough to contribute to then more power to him. He is a man of means(money) so he might as well.

I have read up on this guy and he seems to be alright but looks and personality can be misleading. I heard that this guy employees majority white people at his company and that his company does not promote its black employees to higher level positions. He says that he does business by the good book but I wonder how many times he has been to any of his facilities and preached them words. I see that this company is being sued for racial discrimination Just makes you wonder how black this company really is.

I use to work for this company years ago and it seems that somebody has finally decide to sue this company for its blantant display of discrimination. Not saying that Mr. David Steward is prejudice against his own people but it is true that blacks and other minorities are not getting a chance to showcase their talent. I mean giving the chance ordinary people can do extraordinary things if you let them. I’m black and saw opportunities only being given to white employees and many people spoke on this and quit beacuse of the difference of treatment between white and black employees. Maybe this guy steward will spread of his words of joy like in his book, “Doing business by the good book”, and look into this matter that plagues his company. Sometimes you have to look at your self in the mirrior just to see the person whom you are or have become. Mr. Steward just have to understand that when you turn your attention away from your company and let other people run things for you sometimes their way is not the right way and must be checked.
