President George W. Bush’s press secretary, Dana Perino, told reporters at the White House this afternoon that “the President will travel to St. Louis, Missouri this Friday; the topic will be on the economy…”

Details, such as time and location, will come later, she said.

Here’s the wire service account:

“WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush will visit St. Louis on Friday to deliver remarks on economy.

“The White House did not immediately provide details about where and when the speech would be held.

“Bush last traveled to Missouri in February, when he visited Kansas City to press Congress to boost the sagging economy with a plan of tax rebates.”

I don’t disagree that our soldiers should come home, but only when the job’s done. They ARE there for a reason or two; for themselves, they are there because they swore an oath to defend this country against all enemies, both foreign and domestic, and for the rest of us, they are there to ensure that our liberties and freedom remain. I sincerely wish that the world was not such a place to begin with where we do have to go abroad to defend ourselves here at home, but I’d rather be fighting there than here on our own soil. We in the U.S. have, indeed, become complacent. We take for granted the liberties we have, and most of us have never seen the blatant acts of terror that they have seen for generations in countries like Israel, Palestine, etc…where car-bombings, suicide bombers, and senseless mass-killings are commonplace. 9/11 was a wake-up call; or at least it should have been - the problem is that in the the past several years since then, most people have forgotten - because we have done a good enough job to prevent further attacks against us. However, let’s all ask ourselves a question before we demand that we withdraw our troops from Iraq and Afghanistan: What will happen there when we leave, if we leave too soon? Have people not actually considered that they will become a relative safe-haven for terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda, Hamas, and the Taliban? What happens when they are able to organize, train, plan, and Allah-willing, execute more acts of terror on the U.S. and any other country they so choose? What happens if we don’t keep that loony President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, at bay? Do you honestly think that he won’t do everything in his power to fund and support terrorist organizations in and around Iraq? Do you think that he won’t continue to develop and, one day, deploy nuclear weapons? And where do you think his second choice will be, with the first being Israel? Maybe the U.S.? The kinds of things that the true terrorist, infidel-hating, jihadists would do if given an opportunity, cannot be imagined by most people. They will stop at nothing to see us all killed and, in my opinion, should be stopped at all costs before they get even a single next chance.

You forget that we were lied to about the reason for going there in the first place. WMD’s. Which obviously do not exist. It is a proven fact that Al Qaeda DID NOT have any operations in Iraq at the time of invasion. By launching a pre-emptive attack on a country that posed no threat to us, we have in turn created an open breeding ground for terrorism. WHY NOT SPEND the 500 BILLION here at home? Regarding Iran, do you think that they have Nukes because W says they do? We saw where that thinking leads us. Regarding Terrorism… You can’t kill an ideology. What are we gonna do? kill every last one of them?

…. Over a million Iraqis dead. Over 4,000 Americans dead. For what? Because Mr. Bush will deny he made a mistake at all costs.

I am afraid you, like so many others, have fallen for the propaganda Mr. Bush and his cronies force feeds us every day. He stands up there with a sheepish grin and lies through his teeth.

Don’t have cable, don’t have satellite, but do know that more people in the world hate this country than ever before. We are in debt to China, who owns most of our debt, and to Iran who has us over a barrel because of our dependence on oil. I voted for George Sr. a decent man. But even he has to be ashamed of the mess this man (George Jr.) has made of our world. I couldn’t be happier for those who have prospered during the past 8 years. But you have to be in a minority and have gotten that way at someone else’s expense. Is it just coincidence that an oil man is in the White House and the price of oil has skyrocketed for the past 8 years? BTW, I once read that George Bush does not invest in the stock market, only treasury bills. When you have as much money as he does, why take the risk? We just have to accept that fact the future generations will pay dearly for what has occurred in the past 8 years. And no one is perfect, so we just have to accept and move on as best we can, dem or rep. Peace to all.

So…….when George comes to St. Louis Friday is he going to discuss why his buddies (who are in the oil businesss)are making $118.00 on a barrel of oil and charging us poor citizens $3.70-to $4.50 per gallon for gasoline? He is suppose to be coming to talk about economics. What does he know about money. He never had to work a regular job in his life. Stupid people like Jennifer and Vanessa making stupid remarks are only just another two people who have no idea what is wrong with our country. I know what is right with our country. It is people who go to work every day to make minimum wage, try to pay for gas to get to their jobs, yes, jobs, because most people can live on minimum wage but have to have two jobs to to pay the bills, like for instance FOOD! I know that some of the things wrong with our country are people who live by government paid rent, like Section 8, illegal aliens who get food stamps, WIC funding, free health care, people who get SSI who don’t deserve it because they get SSI because they have a drug problem, people who say they are disabled but aren’t, people who won’t work and collect unemployment, people who are just too lazy to work or work only long enough to collect un-employment. I am tired of supporting these people. It is time for the workers of America to contact their Congress members and tell them to stop the flow of businesses that move off shore for cheaper labor. It is time to stop all the drug trafficing in America.
It is time to.stop the outflow of companys that move to Mexico, China, India and other countries. At my last comment on economics……..
I think all of you reading these comments know that by Memorial Day our gasoline will cost $4 per gallon for Regular and probably $5 for diesel. By January it will cost $5:50 to $6:50 per gallon..

Now, Si Vis …. You know it isn’t fair to use comparisons when people are bashing the president!!

Especially when using factual data that refutes their arguments!

Meanwhile, the military death toll during the NON-warring years (Clinton administration) still exceeds the military death toll under the Bush administration, during a time of war.

I love how these people seem to link everything bad to one person, as if the president has anything to do with the price of oil. And the one griping about Western Union closing doors here … wasn’t it Bill Clinton who signed NAFTA?

And I won’t even go into the idiot that decided he had to drop the F bomb in his comments, here … shows us all what the world is up against, doesn’t it?

What was a dollar worth? A barrel of oil? A home in St. Louis County? A loaf of bread? A gallon of gas/milk? You can’t win this one with old numbers. BTW Jim and Si Vis using twelve year old data that is statistically the same hardly proves your point. THINGS ARE SUPPOSED TO GET BETTER! EINSTEIN. Jim, shame on you for supporting a nitwit like the Latin boy, I agree about the F bomb clown. Latin boy stick to your computer and rave at the walls in your basement!

Please let me know where our President will be in St. Louis. He is a fine man, and has done a great job in so many things, but keeping war from our shores is at the top of the list. A man of faith, he is on the right track for our country. There is so much we can do to maintain our freedom and our American way of life We as citizens of this great country must help rather than criticize. When our country was embroiled in WWII, folks didn’t criticize our President, they got on board to do what they could do even on the homefront. It was a united effort to do what needed doing including sacrificing a bit. I am proud of our Country, our Servicemen and the job they are doing. I am proud of our President George W. Bush our Commander and Chief, and I would very much like to welcome our President to St. Louis, on Friday.

Deleted a comment by “Dustin” for foul and obscene language. Sorry that I didn’t catch it earlier.

Let’s follow the rules, folks.
