Debate: Gas prices

In a moment of seeming straight-forwardness, both are just ticking off what they would do and not running off (at the mouth). It’s clear that the moderators are trying to move this along. Time is ticking.

Hillary Clinton:

  • “We will investigate these gas prices. I believe there is market manipulation going on.”
  • “I would quit putting oil into the strategic petroleum deserve.”
  • If things continue to get worse: “We should have a windfall profits tax on these oil companies.”
  • “We need a long-term strategy.”

Barack Obama:

  • “We’ve got investigate price gouging and market manipulation.”
  • I’ve called for a windfall profits tax.
  • “The long-term trajectory is that we’re going to have to get serious on increasing our fuel efficiency standards and our cars.”
  • I want to create an “Apollo Project,” like a Manhattan Project, to find the new solution through some private and national enterprise.

Well, I’ll say this. Obama has Hill on this topic. I wouldn’t be for anyone who wants to stop storing in the strategic reserve.

There will NEVER be an investigation… George Soros will not allow it.

Obama is absolutely right on this issue. The reason prices are going up is increasing demand on a basically stagnant supply. Which is the same reason “big oil” continues to see profit margin increases. The same principle would hold true for any commodity. If the supply of coffee plateaued, but coffee consumption continued to increase, prices would rise as would the profits of the Starbucks. The only way to bring prices down is to increase supply which is not going to happen or decrease demand.

How surprising that neither one of them mentioned exploiting our known oil, coal and natural gas reserves, building refineries, building nuke plants, wind farms off Nantucket Sound, coal gasification. Their solution, raise taxes.

Well…..most anything will be better than what we’ve had the past 8 years!

The bar has been set sooooooo low that any of the big 3 (McCain, Obama or Hillary) even with all their weaknesses, will be a definite upgrade over the present.
