Debate: Taxes

Sen. Hillary Clinton says she will absolutely let the Bush tax cuts lapse. She says she doesn’t believe that will hurt the economy, even if it’s still flailing. And she wants $100 billion in tax cuts for lower-income folks on a number of things like healthcare and education.

And she has pledged no middle class tax increase. That’s in part a response to claims by Sen. John McCain to the contrary.

Sen. Obama tries to one-up: He “was the first candidate” to pledge to lower middle class taxes.

Then Obama philosophizes (as Clinton did, too) about the economy in general. He quips: “Pain trickles up,” a reference to the economic squeeze at the bottom now hurting the financial markets that traditionally aid the wealthy more than the average Joe.

And yes, Obama pledges no new taxes for people under earning 200 or so thousand dollars annually.

There’s some wiggling around the issue of capital gains. Obama has said he’d consider raising it. He’ll still consider raising it. Maybe raising it in a complicated way. Clinton says she would, maybe, possibly, too, though not very much.

Barack the Magic Negro said he knew that raising capitol gains taxes would result in a lowered revenue stream, but he would still do it because it is “the right thing to do”. He wants to lower the amount of money the government recieves from rich people, where do you suppose they will make up that loss of revenue from? Middle and low income people. Allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire will cost the average American family a couple thousand dollars a year.
