Hulshof now prefers campaign limits, he says
Tony Messenger
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Jason Rosenbaum of the Columbia Daily Tribune reports on his blog today that Sarah Steelman is in favor of campaign limits. This is in contrast to her Republican opponent in the race for governor, U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof.

But that depends on how you interpret Hulshof’s remarks. Hulshof had told reporters he would sign a bill that got rid of campaign limits if it was sent to him. But one of the quotes from Hulshof that didn’t make the cutting room floor in my Sunday piece indicates that he, too, is in favor of limits.

“My preference would be that we would have a system where there would be limits in place,” he said in an interview last week.

Some would argue that quote is in conflict with his previous position. Just as some would argue that “will not” raise taxes is different than “have no plans” to raise taxes (see Jay Nixon post below). I’ll let the political wordsmiths debate the nuance of such statements.
