Jetton: Insure Missouri plan dying

This just in from House Speaker Rod Jetton’s weekly gathering with reporters:

Insure Missouri, the proposal to expand health care to thousands of uninsured people, has “a real problem” and is “on life support.”

The problem: House Republicans won’t pass the plan without provisions that would make it easier to build new medical facilities and make health care pricing more transparent. Jetton contends those moves would increase competition and lower costs for everyone.

But the Missouri Hospital Association opposes any changes in the so-called “certificate-of-need” process, Jetton said. The speaker said he met recently with the association to try to resolve the issue, but there was no give.

Jetton, R-Marble Hill, said he told the group: “Well, if you’re going to take that approach, it’s probably best for us not to waste everybody’s time and even bring the bill up.’”

Just another three weeks and we’re rid of this mediocrity (for the time being). GOOD!

It’s actually a shame if it doesn’t get passed. I know it’s Blunt’s plan and he’s the one who cut everyone off of Medicaid, but Insure Missouri would have at least gotten some people back there health care. If it doesn’t pass, then all those people are going to have to wait at least another year before they get coverage.

Believe me, I don’t want to give Blunt credit on this, but all politics aside, getting it passed it would make a real difference for real people. Even though the plan was an obvious play by Blunt to offset the political damage his health care cuts did to him, it still would make life better for a lot of people. So while Blunt won’t be on the ballot in 2008, hopefully voters will remember that Republicans once again failed to take any steps to offset his health care cuts when they had a chance.

I blame the MHA. They are holding it up over their own power BS. Let’s make it easier for people to find out how much they will pay and to get places built if needed. I do not understand the opposition to this.

Can you really believe anything that comes out of Rod Jetton’s mouth?
