Johnson finds no loyalty among lawyers

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Earlier this month, State Rep. Connie Johnson announced that, in solidarity with ousted Fire Chief Sherman George, she would not accept an endorsement from the firefighters’ union, which Johnson accused of helping push the chief out.

During George’s prolonged fight with City Hall over promotions last year, another individual who dutifully stood by him was his attorney, Tom Blumenthal, a named partner in the Clayton firm Paule, Camazine and Blumenthal.

Since then, however, Johnson has entered a legal fight of her own. Earlier this week, State Rep. Robin Wright-Jones - one of two Democrats running against Johnson for a State Senate seat - filed a lawsuit challenging Johnson’s residency status.

And which law firm is Wright-Jones using to wage the court battle? That’s right - Paule, Camazine and Blumenthal.

But the door swings both ways.

Once the city Elections Board began an inquiry into her residency, Johnson sought representation from lawyer Rufus Tate - who used to work for the Elections Board.

Of course, that loyalty does not transcend the practice of law should come as no surprise to Johnson - she herself is a lawyer.
