Lobbyist who killed himself was City Hall regular

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

The lobbyist who committed suicide last night in his condo across from Forest Park was a familiar face at City Hall.

David C. Sorden, 38, worked for the last three St. Louis mayors - Freeman Bosley, Clarence Harmon and Francis Slay - and was a regular at the Friday morning Board of Aldermen meetings, where he represented President Casino, as well as some police and firefighters.

As we’ve report at the main site, police say that Sorden - who apparently was a convicted felon - shot himself last night as federal agents with a search warrant were at his door.

More details are expected later in the day.

This is the second loss in recent months for the informal roundtable of lobbyists, scribes and political groupies that exchange quips and rumors outside the board chambers while aldermen hold their weekly meeting.

In December, John “Big John” Triplett - a pipefitter and father of Alderman Kacie Starr Triplett - died unexpectedly.

This comes as a huge shock to those who “thought” they knew Dave.

I agree with you Jim! I notice many people aren’t touching this issue with a 10-foot pole.

I was just stupid a intern nearly a decade ago when I met Dave. He was probably one of the first lobbyist’s I really got to know and was more than happy to let a few of us (interns) tag along with him and some of the legislators he ran with. He was very pleasant, always upbeat, and never let on a hint of impropriety (such has been reported). I spent enough time with Dave, in and out of the Capitol, to believe that I knew him well. This was a COMPLETE shocker and a total heartbreaker to me.

Funny, kind, intelligent and the kind of guy who would always be there when you needed him. That’s the Dave Sorden that I will always remember. It’s tragic that someone who was loved by so many was never able to share his deepest disturbances and obtain the help he truly needed. I will always miss him and his eclectic ways. I hope he has found peace.

I’ll miss my buddy, Dave, who I have known and been friends with for the past 20 years. While I knew a bit about Dave and his history, I not aware of the latest crime allegations and never believed he would ever take his whole life. I am greatly saddened by this.

I have been tried to find visitation/funeral information for him, as a few of his friends would like to attend with me to pay our final respects for our old buddy. Anybody have this information? Please email me at weinstock at msn dot com
