All that hoopla about Sen. Barack Obama’s money-raising success doesn’t mean that the Democratic presidential frontrunner no longer  needs cash.

That, in effect, is the underlying message of the “all star list” of Missouri Democrats who are headlining a pro-Obama fundraiser Friday night in the Fountain Room at Scape American Bistro, 48 Maryland Plaza in the Central West End.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. The requested donation is $50.

“BLOW-OUT FUNDRAISER TO HELP BARACK FINISH!,” the invitation says. It then lists the remaining primaries/caucuses:

Guam (5/3) ● Indiana (5/6) ● North Carolina (5/6) ● West Virginia (5/13) ● Kentucky (5/20) ● Oregon (5/20) ● Puerto Rico (6/1) ● Montana (6/3) ● South Dakota (6/3)

The notable hosts (unclear which ones will be there) are:

U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill
former Sen. Jean Carnahan
St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley
U.S. Rep. Lacy Clay
St. Louis Alderman Kacie Starr Triplett

It’s great to see a candidate that inspires people. I’m glad to see his supporters still working hard 11 weeks after our primary.
Jo, thanks for the post - i’ll definitely be there !!

In spite of all the back and forth between Hilary and Obama, people who really care about changing the direction of this nation are excited about the Obama candidacy. Many of us can’t wait to get started working for him when it is one on one with McCain. And we all know the money is needed no matter what time it is in the campaign. Everyone who cares about where we are going as a nation should show up for this event on Friday. I will be proud to bring the largest donation I can so that we can tell Obama and his team that Missouri will work for him for the months before the election and we will vote for him in November.
Thanks for letting us know where we can meet with others who are as excited about this election as we are.

Hope we can see tons of people there tomorrow night, not just the big names. Obama will be president for all of us, not just the politcal insiders. I hope anyone who wants to support Obama will be able to come, even if they can’t afford the $50.

Terry:

The $50.00 is the point.

Maybe $50 is pocket change to you, but for some it’s not that simple. I’d rather be behind someone who raises money from small donations from thousands than someone who has a few fat cats behind them. Sometimes it’s not all about who raises the most money, but rather about who raises the the most excitement and consciousness

If the economy is so bad, how can all these democrats afford to donate to these campaigns? Dont they realize if either dem gets elected their taxes are going up?

Zack,
Won’t Obama’s 46 million dollars stretch out far enough for him to win the Democratic bid?

I see the Repug spinmeisters have plugged their talking points into their robotic followers already. Taxes going up? How about all the money we’ve passed to Bush’s oil/energy friends by filling our gas tanks each week? The Repugs are making every public institution an opportunity for us to pass money to their friends with deep pockets - health insurance companies being tops on my list. We pay pennies in taxes compared to the thoursands of dollars we willingly pass along to the rich power brokers. It’s time to think for ourselves and not let the neo-cons brainwash us any more. That’s why Obama is such a threat to them. People can see what’s happened during the last 7 yrs and are ready to take their country back.

Yes, $50 is a lot of money to most of us, especially retired folks like myself. But how much is my grandchildren’s democracy worth?

Looking forward to attending this event. The list of hosts looks like the setup for an inspiring evening. This has been a long, hard slog, and we need to keep showing up to events like this and supporting Obama all the way to the White House.
