Mo Young Dems gather at Webster U, become “parent” of College Dems
Missouri’s Young Democrats gathered at Webster University this past weekend for a state convention amid what the group called an “historic moment for youth politics in Missouri.”
Among other things, the convention approved a new constitution that in effect merges the College Democrats and the Young Democrats across the state.
“Unanimously, members from both College Democrats and Young Democrats chapters across the state voted to reorganize the College Democrats of Missouri under the umbrella of the Young Democrats of Missouri as the Young Democrats of Missouri College Federation,” the Young Democrats said in a statement. “This merger will allow Young Democrats organizations to economize their efforts and reduce unnecessary redundancies created as a result of parallel operation.
“ Moreover, the merger allows individual chapters to simultaneously have access to the resources available at the national level through the Young Democrats of America and the College Democrats of America.”
New Young Democrats president Rick Puig said in a statement that the convention also helped the young activists of his party “reorganize and reenergize before the 2008 election. We have sown the seeds of change and are excited about the challenges and opportunities that lie before us.”
Several Democratic officials or candidates addressed the convention, including two attorney general candidates — state Reps. Jeff Harris of Columbia and Margaret Donnelly of Richmond Heights — state Sen. Jeff Smith, D-St. Louis (who isn’t on the ballot this fall but credits the youth vote for his victory in 2006 and his almost-victory to Congress in 2004) and state Rep. Sam Page, D-Creve Coeur, who’s running for lieutenant governor.
The convention also elected a new executive board for the Missouri Young Democrats. They are:
Puig - President
Chris Miller – Vice President
Nate Kennedy – Chairperson of the Young Democrats of Missouri College Federation
Aimee Koon - Secretary-Treasurer
Sarah Rappaport – National Committee Person
Tyler Thompson – National Committee Person
Brian Roach – Communications Director
Martin Casas - Finance Director

Mike Carter should have been there.
After all, Mike Carter is 36 (youngish) — and the leading democratic candidate for the Missouri Lieutenant Governor spot.

Kudos to Chris Miller! He will be great.
“the leading democratic candidate for the Missouri Lieutenant Governor spot …”
Are you SERIOUS?
Because nobody else thinks you are!
Carter has been a joke since the first time he ran for office (judge), prior to even finishing law school, and he thought that he could use the Time and Temperature phone number as a gimmick!
There can’t be a person alive (other than you and Carter) who thinks he’s viable.
Jim - Amazing as it may seem, Mike Carter may actually be the leading Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor. The only possible competition is Sam Page, a state representative from Maryland Heights. I’m sure Page has more connections in the political establishment, but I can guarantee you that just by virtue of the time and temperature line, Mike Carter has much more name recognition.
In reality, though, the Democratic primary is meaningless: None of the Democrats will have a chance against Peter Kinder.
CORRECTION Jim (the republican)
Mike was just out of law school when ran for Circuit Judge AND he had taken the bar. However, his bar results were not back so then SOS-Blunt ruled that Mike could not “swear and affirm that [Mike] would qualify for office at the time of election.”
Seems many people have missed the point that MIKE CARTER “knew” he had passed the bar and was confident enough to swear to it right out of the gate — sounds leaderish to me.

Nick,
Just being argumentative, but I truly feel that the Democrats are bringing massive amounts of voters to the polls and that Kinder would lose against virtually anyone in the Democratic slot.
You really feel otherwise?
Respectfully,
Chad
What a pleasure it is to see the youth of today becoming so motivated and inspired! This event is a welcome turn from the disenchanted youth of my time.
Bursting with American pride,

Just wanted to point out that Rick Puig and Nate Kennedy were actually re-elected to their positions. Continuity of leadership is very rare, but very valuable to a youth-centered organization. I’m sure that YDMO will benefit greatly from this resource.
Expect great things from the Young Democrats this year!
Is it just me? Does noone else find it totally Hypocritical, (and possibly a bit intellectually challenged), that Michael Carter is using an autodialer driven telemarketing campaign to promote that he supports a ‘Political Do No Call List’?????
