Name-dropping may not signify endorsements

Looking at all the high-powered names hosting Republican Gina Loudon’s fundraiser this Thursday, you might think she had the nomination sewed up in the 7th District Senate race.

For example, co-hosts of the event include President Pro Tem Mike Gibbons and Majority Leader Charlie Shields. Nineteen additional legislators and a bunch of local luminaries also are listed.

But Gibbons, for his part, isn’t making an endorsement. His spokeswoman, Farrah Fite, said Gibbons has offered to headline fundraisers for all three Republican candidates in the race. The other two are Reps. Jane Cunningham and Neal St. Onge.

“He’s lending his support, if that helps them, equally,” Fite said.

The event Thursday is hosted by Amy and Mark Dunn at Dunn & Miller PC in Chesterfield. Donations sought range from $100 for a guest to $675 for a “platinum sponsor.”

There’s at least one co-host who won’t be neutral: Loudon’s husband, John Loudon, who holds the Senate seat now and is leaving because of term limits.

Too bad she’s COMPLETELY UNQUALIFIED, and has a huge mountain to climb when it comes to both Neal St.Onge and Jane Cunningham’s war chests.

Sad that the Loudon’s just can’t seem to let it go. Maybe she’ll inadvertently try and legalize abortion like her husband did through deceit and stupidity

Good stuff how the Post is trying to sway people’s opinions in the 7th away from Cunningham through bias article after bias article.

The Post should learn that conservative voters like those in the 7th will do the opposite of what the Post tells them to do and they just keep giving her publicity.

The Post should look at both Jane and Neal’s Host Committees. They have the same names on them… almost every single one.

How can St. Onge still be running he owes a ton of money to St.Louis County for back taxes.

Please, please, oh, please wing-nuts in the 7th district! PLEASE do vote for Jane Cunningham in the primary. We really need her continued mediocre, biased, smarmy presence in Jefferson City. Do not be taken in by the PD’s perceived biases in this race. Jane Cunningham is the anointed one!!

Props to the first poster who posted the video http://www.firedupmissouri.com/node/7019 it’s hilarious!!

It’s funny how she is supposed to back up kids who are different with the anti-bulling bill, but yet she was very immature and irresponsible when she basically bullied them out of her office because they were different!

Jane Cunningham is a B and a hypocrite!

She kicked them out because they were unprofessional little liars. You forget that it had nothing to do with them being gay or different. It had everything for them stating they were constituents to get a meeting, and then admitting they live in Kansas city.

She’s Chair of the Education Committee in the House…..That gives them every right to lobby her on an anti-bullying bill. Jane was the unprofessional one.

And to think I mistook that wide-eyed (constant) look of surprise as the astonishment Cunnlingham must feel every day when she confronts the reality that she doesn’t think like everyone else (outside the 7th, apparently). Plastic surgery. I should have known.

Its a shame that while Obama is out there talking about the negative tone of politics, we get people that think things like that video are funny, especially from the left side of the aisle.

Yes you may disagree with her on issues, but come on that video has no substance. I HOPE we truly can CHANGE!

butcherfan92 - How exactly would you say that Gina Loudon is unqualified? She is intelligent, educated, and has a long history of involvement in state politics. Sure, state senator is one step up from the “entry level” position of state rep. But heck, if a politician’s wife who has never held elected office is qualified to run for US Senate (that would be Senator Clinton, in case you were wondering), why not state senate? In my view, Gina Loudon is the most qualified - and the best - of anyone seeking this seat.

Hows about becasue she’s completely unqualified! As someone once stated, “Does Brett Farve’s wife need to take over as QB of the Greenbay Packers now that Brett retired. After all she’s been around football all her life and knows what a deep route is”

I think Gina Loudon would appreciate being compared to Hillary Clinton, ya know Hillary Loudon has a nice ring to it. The fact is she has never been elected to anything and never done anything. I didn’t realize that State Rep. was entry level…. I thought thats what todays municipal elections are for, byt thanks Nick you really proved your point. Tell Neal St.Onge Chair of the Transportation committee is entry level. Jane like her or hate her isn’t at an entry level position either.

Gina like her husband just can’t get away from Jeff City even when everyone begs them to leave

Come now Nick your comparing Hillary Clinton who was married to a Governor and the Leader of the Free World to Gina Loudon who’s married to a guy who lost for state auditor and then proceeded to lie to his peers in the Senate to push through Midwifery. Yeah good call Gina Loudon and Hillary Clinton are one in the same.

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

At least there are two Dems running in the seventh and thanks to Gina ygr Republicans are going to bash eachother into oblivion allowing a Dem to get in

Nick, let’s not forget about the qualifications held by Jean Carnahan in order to become a U.S. Senator from Missouri.

It is awfully naive of anyone to think that a dem will pick up that senate seat. But, if you want to spend your money there, that’s great!

— Jim (the republican)
11:28 am April 8th, 2008

Yes, butcherfan92, it is an entry level position. Lacy Clay entered the state house straight out of college, never having held office. One of my favorite Democrats, Rachel Storch, had never held elected office before becoming a state rep. And perhaps my least favorite Democrat, dim bulb Jamilah Nasheed, also had never held elected office. Same for Sue Schoemehl. And if you want to say that you have to work your way up from city council, you’d be shocked to discover that prior to her election as Secretary of State in 2004, Robin Carnahan had never held any elective office.

Enough?

— Nick Kasoff
11:40 am April 8th, 2008

Enough of the Loudons antics? Yes I have had enough. So has Jack Jackson and the rest of Loudon’s peers.

All of the legislators you’ve named entered the HOUSE not the SENATE! Minus Carnahan who won on name. Thanks for helping me out there!

Here’s a quick lesson there’s five times less Senators as there are Reps, and most individuals in the Senate including Johnny Loudon moved up from the State House or other elected office. Gina isn’t running for the House (which apparently is an entry level position) to represent 30 thousand, she’s running for Senate and to represent over 125 thousand people. Being the wife to a legislator that was universally despised for trickery and deciet doesn’t make you qualified to run.

Enough? Yes I’ve had enough…. And I pray that voters will do the reasearch and vote for one of the other two Republican candidates, who have REAL experience and have held top notch chairs.

I think it’s safe to say that aside from Centrist, Butcher92, and Ron everyone here is voting Dem anyways so this whole argument is pretty moot. Everything here goes party line when an argument comes up. The left attacks Cunningham, and the right defends. The right attacks whoever and the left defends.

There is no such thing as even debate on a board like this

Neal St. Onge has been my state representative, and he is as nice a guy as you would ever want to meet. He takes his job seriously, he responds to his e-mails, and he actually does care what the residents of his district think.

John Loudon has been my state Senator, has been an obnoxious political tool for his entire tenure, and resorted to dirty tricks when his pet legislation ran into trouble. Good riddance, and I hope Gina stays far away from Jeff City.

Enough with family dynasties already (that goes for the Dems also).

2:27 pm April 8th, 2008

Haas ‘08, you’re wrong … I definitely won’t be voting Democrat, and almost never have.

Enough - I named house members because butcherfan92 said, “I didn’t realize that State Rep. was entry level.” But since you brought it up, the following senators never served in the house: Victor Callahan, D-11, Dan Clemens R-20, Jolie Justus D-10, Chris Koster D-31, Gary Nodler R-32, Jeff Smith D-Casino, and Bill Stouffer R-21. I will give Nodler a pass because he is exceptionally qualified in spite of this. But the rest of them are basically entry-level politicians.

Why do people find this blog a place to bash others, call names, and say downright ugly things about other human beings, all of whom deserve a bit of respect?
It would be nice if this discussion evolved into discussing the merits of each candidate (they all have some, regardless of the hatred that some people seem to feel towards certain ones), rather than thinking of uglier statements to out do the last poster.

I think all three of the Republican candidates in the 7th district are nice and qualified people. Each one of them will bring a unique set of strengths and weaknesses to the office. We’d do everyone a lot of good if we discussed the actual merits and disadvantages of the candidates, since obviously one of the three will win in a heavily Republican district.

And a side note on the midwives bill - I’ve heard that Senator Loudon never implied that the midwife stuff wasn’t in the bill. He just highlighted some of the major changes in the insurance parts that people were arguing about, then answered questions. Nobody had any questions about the midwife section. The senators never bothered to read the bill. They pass a lot of stuff that way. It went through the same process in the House. Not a single House member read the bill before the passed it the next day.

Maybe the legislature should be required to read the bills they pass. Then things like Jetton’s village law wouldn’t end up in the law, either.

You named seven Nick… Since you won’t let it go and seem to have time to spare what about the other 25+? You’re proving my point with every post. But I will tip my hat on the Jeff Smith reference. We’ll just agree to disagree. Either way it’s nice to debate with you.

And to add something Justin, Loudon’s midwifery bill was shot down days before he decided to slip in language about midwifery to a massive healthbill. I agree legislators should read more but deceit and lying is unacceptable. To hide his deed he used a word which is all but forgotten in modern English to describe midwifery “Tocological Professionals” because he knew midwifery would raise a flag. The kicker is since he didn’t know what the word meant he inadvertently tried to legalize abortion to non licensed professionals

Bellow is a quote from Senator Graham who is respected by both sides, “He showed this whole session that he’s a lying snake,” Graham added. “And for him to get up there today with this piousness and pretend he would have been honest with anybody is absurd. He lied to everybody in the process. And he has put small businesses and people who work for small businesses that need health care… he has put their health care in jeopardy.”

And here is Missouri Right to life’s take, “Unfortunately, because of the drafter’s choice of language in the amendment, including the use of a term that has been all but forgotten in the English language–’tocological’–the new provision can be exploited to allow abortions to be performed by non-physicians,” said Right to Life president Pam Fichter

Straight Dem - On the contrary, if nearly 1/3 of them have never served in the house, I’ve established that it is acceptable to go that way. I’m not saying that it’s the norm, just that it isn’t as unusual as some are making it out to be.

I must say, though, you gave me a good laugh when you said that Senator Graham “is respected by both sides.” This is the guy who, according to media reports, drove drunk, refused to take a breathalyzer test, and demanded immediate medical attention. Then, when he got to the ER, which by some coincidence was staffed by a friendly physician, they delayed long enough that a sobriety test was impossible. And, he, with the assistance of hospital staff, physically obstructed and threatened to attack a cop who was trying to take his urine for testing. I don’t know how much people respected him before this incident, but I can assure you that the respect is pretty much gone now. DWI: common, if serious, mistake. His conduct after the DWI: arrogant and outrageous. And the sad thing is, Graham is paralyzed from an auto accident when he was 16. If anyone should know better about driving drunk, it is Mr. Graham.

Details on Graham’s hospital confrontation are here:
