Open Comment time!
Special to the Post-Dispatch
It’s Sunday evening (sorry for the delay, but life intervened), and once again we’re opening up the Political Fix line.
Any topic, any person, any event is on the table.
Just be civil, at least somewhat concise, and keep your comments focused on regional or local matters (or the local angle of a national issue). There are plenty of national blogs to handle the national stuff.
So start your typing…

The more stories the better for the economy and those who may not get the money if they do not File by Tuesday—THANKS
You may have heard that you must file a 2007 tax return by April 15 to get the stimulus money in May. I remember many classes on economics at College of the Ozarks and Webster University. If 5,000 more people filed and received a $600 check that could pump 3 million dollars into the Springfield economy. How much it will help the overall economy is unclear, but it can’t hurt and you could use the money right?
Myself I think getting new jobs and companies into Springfield (www.technologypark2006.org), by changing the name and concept of the second industrial park to a technology park could get us money to promote it like the Fort Leonard Wood technology park. One thing is clear that people including Seniors that did not file taxes last year or for the last few years must file now if they had $3,000 in income last year. Stimulus checks will run from $300 to $600 for individuals and twice that for married couples.
Sincerely,
Steven L. Reed

If 40,000 more people filed and received a $600 check that could pump 12 million dollars into the Saint Louis Economy. How much it will help the overall economy is unclear, but it can’t hurt and you could use the money right?
Myself I think getting new jobs and companies into Missouri (www.technologypark2006.org), by having pro active economic development. One thing is clear that people including Seniors that did not file taxes last year or for the last few years must file now if they had $3,000 in income last year. Stimulus checks will run from $300 to $600 for individuals and twice that for married couples.

Senator Joan Bray says her smoking ban isn’t poised to go anywhere, is this still true? There is a hearing on the ban Wednesday. Is this something I should go to? I have done plenty of city council hearings on this issue, but I am completely new to politics on the state level. Any advice would be appreciated.

Whew! I just e-filed my state and federal tax returns, which totalled over 100 pages. I have a small business which requires more extensive and detailed accounting and our returns got done because of good tax help (thanks CD!), and preparation of all the documents in advance. We only took about four hours to get it done using a tax program. In the past I have sweated over these for as long as 10 hours or more. It’s over! Yipppee!
Hogan, first let me say that I hope you paid in extra as government is the answer to problems and we know you are anxious to help out.
Also, I see where Obama is backing out of his commitment to take public financing for his presidential race. What do you have to say about that Hogan?
Jo, would you comment on this post Mo. Political News Service. I am concerned if we are getting balanced political news coverage from the PD:
Mannies & Messenger Miss Another One! MRP Hires New Communications Director
April 12th, 2008 · No Comments
New MRP Communications Director Tina Hervey pictured here with Sen.’s Brownback and Dole
The crack reporters over at the Post Dispatch - who received the same email from the MRP that we did regarding the announcement that former Senator Jim Talent was being named the honorary chairman of the House and Senate Majority Fund - completely missed the fact that the MRP has apparently hired a new communications director. The e-mail “media advisory” was sent from native St. Louisan Tina Hervey.
(Note: After looking at the byline again, we noticed the “reporter” was Jo Mannies. Figures! Hey Baghdad Tony Messenger, isn’t Jefferson City your new beat?)
Hervey attended Mary Institute/Country Day school in suburban St. Louis and graduated from Albion college in 1998 with a BA in History and Political Science. She also earned a Masters Degree in Political Management from The George Washington University.
According to her Linkedin profile, she’s held these positions in Washington D.C.:
* Deputy Director of Regional Services at Department of Education
* Special Assistant to the Press Secretary at The White House
* Deputy Associate Director in the Office of Public Liaison at The White House
* Deputy Director of Government Relations at We Care America
* Staffer at United States Senate
Would someone please tell me why the media doesn’t care that Bush personally approved torture techniques?
http://www.crooksandliars.com/2008/04/13/wheres-the-media-outrage-over-bushs-knowledge-and-approval-of-torture-time-to-write/
And for anyone who thinks that the “torture” Bush legalized is some kind of heroic Jack Baeur saving the universe stuff, please educate yourself here: http://www.historiansagainstwar.org/resources/torture/cox.html
I wonder how the Post Disgrace is going to cover the anti-Semite, terrorist coddling, despot enabling, Barack the Magic Negro supporting, killer rabbit seeing, Panama canal blundering Jimmy Carter meeting with the head of a terrorist organization, Hamas.
Also, I didnt see much about Barack the Magic Negro’s condescending remarks about faith, the second amendment, and anti-immigration policy. Of course, he has issued the standard apology IF his remarks were offensive to anyone. Basically, what he said is what he believes.
Is the Archdiocese banning mock elections in its schools as I’ve heard? Are they instructing administrators to counsel those who self-identify as Democrats? I’d really like to hear more about this.
Why do the religious NRA gun-nuts applaud Bill Cosby when he speaks the truth about Black America, yet these same White suburbanites are offended when Barak Obama speaks the truth about them?
I just talked to Senator Crowell’s office and was told Senator Bray just canceled the smoking ban hearing scheduled for Wednesday.
