Ortwerth works the halls for conservatives

Joe Ortwerth, formerly a state legislator and St. Charles County executive, has become a familiar face in the Capitol’s hallways again.

Ortwerth is lobbying for the Missouri Family Policy Council, a new statewide affiliate of Focus on the Family, the conservative religious group headed by James Dobson.

Ortwerth said his job as the group’s executive director focuses on “issue education.” He’s also pushing a few bills, such as a constitutional amendment underscoring students’ rights to pray at school and a bill requiring that women considering abortions be offered a chance to view an ultrasound.

But Orthwerth said he’s staying mainly on the sidelines of another hot-button issue: the continuing fight over the stem cell amendment approved by state voters in 2006.

There isn’t much I agree with Joe on, except maybe opposition to corporate welfare, but he is a welcome addition in the Missouri capitol. There havent been enough elected officials with his integrity.

Yes P Joe Ortwerth has integrity. It’s nice to read that he is once again working in the political arena. Hopefully some of him will rub off on a few of those who occupy seats in Jeff City at tax payerfs expense!

I am sending my good son Joe to do my work! I need to let you know that I am sending him not only to do the work at the Capital, I will be sending him to political arena within St. Charles County to save us from the Democrats! They are starting to make to many inroads into the political structure there and we can’t have that. The only people I love are Republicans and everyone knows that. Its good servants like my son Joe that will help us rid the state of the peace loving, enviroment loving, free spirited democrats that act and believe as my son Jesus did when he spent his time on earth to help people and do my work. I feel the need to get involved in partisan politics because well, uhhhhh, I forgot why but my son Joe and his followers will uhhhh, you know, uuhhh know exactly how to straighten you all out so you act right and fear me to the uptmost! It is his duty to manipulate the people into fearing my power so that you will know that he knows that I have all power. Follow him and you will never be lost!!!

Thank You,
GOD
P.S.
In case your wondering you dont really need Joe to believe in me. And I think its OK if you want to do what you want and think for yourself. Just keep me in mind every now and then and if you ever need me call and I’ll be there! I love you all I just had to act a certain way to keep a very, very small portion of my people happy!

Glad to see Mr. Ortwerth in Jeff City. He brings a level of honesty, humility and integrity to the halls of the Capitol. Something those great halls are sadly lacking these days.

Take if from a still recovering resident of st.charles county, Joe Ortwerth is extremely representative of the majority viewpoint in that county. Housing may be more affordable and not as aged, yet the “me first and me only” attitudes in st.charles county are overwhelming. A recent poll showed huge opposition to a sales tax increase to create a county wide busline. The Jane Cunningham/Cynthia Davis loneytoons caucus in the state legislature has many members from St.Charles county. Good luck Joe, not that you’ll need it with this bat*hit crazy legislature.

You know how you can tell that wasn’t really God? He doesn’t know what he is talking about.

Tipped his hand when he said Democrats were making many in roads. The opposite is true. They do talk like they are but they aren’t. Their biggest “accomplishment” is that in special elections, they gained back their original number of seats on the County Council. Then, and I know this will be a shocker, the incumbents got re-elected. Big whoop!

Don’t get me wrong, I am glad the Democrats think they are doing so well in St. Charles County. That way they continue to drain resources that could be spent elsewhere and get nowhere.

The only chance for democrats in right wing St.Charles county is for an ever increasing number of people to move into the county from outside of St.Louis. Progressive and liberal voters that have grown up here aren’t going to move out there, no matter how affordable the housing is. The social and economic views of that community are republican to the core. Add to that the white flight from north county where all the formerly democratic union members cross the bridge and become republicans and you have the current situation. A non St.Louisan won’t know any better when they move out there, they’ll just realize the traffic nightmare once they get there. Not to mention, the school districts which continue to become more affluent yet never improve or decline, they just stagnate. No thanks, I’ll pass on living somewhere where everyone looks alike and has family lineage from one of three or four western european countries.

Not very progressive or up-to-date. You’re still stuck in the ’70’s and 80’s STL County view of St. Charles.

School districts are as good as any you have, the traffice snarls of yesteryear are but memories and no worse than anyone who drives 270 face and most people’s families who live here now haven’t been here for more than 1 or 2 generations.

So, remain in the past but at least don’t use the name progressive when you aren’t up-to-date.

Sorry Jackson,

I lived there my entire life up until a couple of years ago. How many school districts in St.Charles county have met NCLB’s Yearly Adequate Progress standards? The answer is 0, yet I’ll take out smaller districts like Ladue, Clayton and Brentwood. Rockwood has met the standards as well as Lindbergh. Even a lower income district such as Affton has hit their goals except missing by one point in a special education category. I hate standardized tests, but thats what we’re using to measure education today. In terms of traffic, I’m guessing you don’t drive Hwy 70 during rush hour and sit from mid rivers mall dr. all the way to wentzville? Because thats the daily disaster that those commuters deal with. Even with the Page extension and hwy 370, the traffic just continues to get worse.

I’m up to date on the fact that the “me first” attitude out there hasn’t gotten any better. Recently Steve Ehlman and Sally Faith had a poll commissioned to measure potential support for a sales tax increase which would create an 8 bus countywide busline. The results; overwhelmingly opposing and Ehlman tells the St.Charles county journal “we’ll have to try and find the money some other way” Good Luck Mr. County Executive. Your voters think that public transportation equates with “those people” which can mean a number of things, yet is constantly in the vocabulary of the residents. So Jackson, please try and tell me that there isn’t a mass exodus/white flight from north county into your fair community. The Post Dispatch only had a frontpage story on it back a few months ago.
