Rod Jetton’s greatest hits
I feel bad that after not talking about the village law for several months, Speaker of the House Rod Jetton finally granted me an interview and I wasn’t able to include many of his quotes in my piece on the village law that ran on the mother ship today.
Jetton had quite a bit to say, most of it in reference to fellow Republican Dennis Wood, of Kimberling City. Here are the highlights:
“There was no attempt on my part to hide anything.”
“I’m telling you that what Dennis is saying is absolutely false.”
“He (Wood) got mad at me this year when I didn’t make him tourism chair over B.J. Marsh.”
“If you really wanted to fix it (the village law), youwouldn’t say something against the speaker.”
“If you really wanted to fix it, why go to the press and make the speaker mad?”
“Dennis doesn’t want to fix it, I don’t think. It’s about him being a martyr.”
“Never underestimate how somebody will hurt you a lot if it helps them just a little bit. I think that’s what Dennis Wood has done here.”
Oh, and why did Jetton not speak about the village law brouhaha for so long, a decision he now says he regrets?
“I didn’t want to be seen fighting with a fellow Republican” in the press.
Apparently, Jetton doesn’t see it that way anymore. One final note. Jetton denies having anything to do with creating the village law. Asked about two media reports that have indicated he has fessed up over his role, this is what Jetton says:
“They reported it that way, but that’s not what my comments were.”

Excuse Mr Jetton. Your pants are on fire!
