Slay moving into GOP country

Gossip diva Deb Peterson has the scoop: Mayor Francis Slay is heading south.

Peterson reported this morning that Slay and First Lady Kim have put their Lindenwood Park home on the market - the broker is brother Tom Slay, natch - and are moving near Carondelet Park to the new Boulevard Heights development, the former site of the school district’s old greenhouse and nursery.

But Slay’s move is more than just an empty nester finding a new tree.

The mayor is leaving the 23rd Ward - where his family has deep political roots - and heading into what is, for a lifelong Democrat, enemy territory.

Slay’s new home is in the 12th Ward, represented by Alderman Fred Heitert - the Board of Aldermen’s only Republican.

Fred Heitert

Heitert: The mayor’s new alderman

I’m sure Mayor Slay will find he is welcome in the 12th ward. Contrary to what some Post-Dispatch folks would have you believe, many Republicans are friendly, decent people, who would welcome a fine neighbor like Slay.

Ah, yes, I live amongst the self-declared friendly, decent people. So long as Mrs. Slay is willing to be seen and not heard and the Mayor doesn’t entertain his non-caucasian associates there, I’m sure the First Couple will be most welcome. Of course, the Sherman George dust-up has probably already given him a measure of race pride cred.

Will we ever hear just what kind of ‘deal’ Sly made w/ the developer on the new house?

Not if we have to count on the Post to tell us.

The 12th Ward is hardly “GOP country.” Heitert is only Republican to have carried the 12th in over a decade (not even Kit Bond). Republicans used to carry that ward when they had a good organizations there (under savvy leaders like Fred Whaley, Bill Haag and Vern Schmidt) and when Ed Ottinger was state rep (1967-93), but now the ward doesn’t even have Republican committee people.

This is a GREAT house on a really nice street.
4 bedroom, 2.5 baths and approx. 2000 sqr feet with a lot of updates!
It offers a huge master bedroom too. Also featuring a nice yard with an attractive 2 car garage. Walking distance to Lindenwood Park. This is a very nice home.
You can call me direct at 314-406-4481 to find out all the details.
I am never too busy for you!
Thanks, Tom Slay-Broker/Manager-RE/MAX Results

Is this a joke? Everyone knows there are no Republicans in the city, obvious my that fact that there aren’t even any GOP candidates for office.

What difference does it make? According to neighbors, Slay and his family are never, never seen in that house on Oleatha anyway. Many wonder if it is just a city address so he can run for office. Never a light on, nor person around. Makes one wonder doesn’t it.?

“According to neighbors” my foot. Mayor Slay and his family live on Oleatha - I see them quite often. Very nice people.
