Talent to take larger role in state legislative campaigns

Former U.S. Sen. Jim Talent, R-Mo., who served in the state House before heading to Congress, is apparently preparing to help his party protect its control of the state Legislature.

Talent is joining two Republican political leaders in the state Capitol — state Sen. Charlie Shields, majority floor Leader and head of his party’s Senate Majority Fund, and state Rep. Steve Tilley, his counterpart in the state House — at a news conference Monday.

The event is billed to “to announce naming” Talent as the honorary chairman of both political legislative arms. Both groups are part of the GOP’s effort get enough Republicans elected or re-elected this fall to preserve the party’s control of both chambers.

Talent was minority leader in the state House when he was first elected to Congress in 1992.

The news conference is slated for 2 p.m. Monday in the state House lounge.

It only makes sense to me that the GOP would want to benefit from the wisdom & popularity of one of its wisest & most well known members… Talent has proven himself as a fundraiser, and its great that he’s willing to help the party.

It’s cute how the last post assumes that Talent is relevant, while slamming Gregg Somebody for trying to stay that way. It’s Talent who looks desperate come back to the fold and be admired for his, er, wisdom. Hope you can make it to the news conference, Chuck. Guys like you are in increasingly short supply.

I deleted a post that made personal attacks against someone who is not the subject of this thread. Let’s keep it civil, and keep all comments focused on the matter at hand. References to other people need to be respectful, even if the comments are critical.
