Two senior staffers leaving Blunt’s office
Virginia Young

Jodi Stefanick, architect of the 2005 Medicaid cuts, is leaving the governor’s staff effective April 11.

Also departing this month: Mary Beth Luna Wolf. She has been Blunt’s senior policy adviser on education and the director of his St. Louis office.

Stefanick plans to move to Boston to be closer to her family. The move has been planned since last summer, said Nanci Gonder, a spokeswoman for Gov. Matt Blunt.

Asked whether Stefanick has lined up a new job, Gonder said: “I think she’s considering all her options.” Gonder said Stefanick was unavailable for comment.

A former legislator from St. Louis County, Stefanick handled the bill that rolled back eligiblity for the state and federal health care program for the poor. At the time, she said the changes would ensure that the system survived for the truly needy.

She left the House in late 2005 to become Blunt’s senior policy adviser for health care. In that role, she led efforts to craft a new health program focusing on prevention.

Gonder said Blunt did not plan to replace Stefanick. “I think her duties will be divided up among other policy people,” Gonder said.

Wolf also will depart in mid-April, said Gonder, who was unsure whether Wolf had another job.
