Van Eaton, Smith join Hulshof campaign

Two of the Missouri GOP’s most influential operatives — Lloyd Smith and Jason Van Eaton – are climbing aboard the gubernatorial campaign train of U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof, R-Columbia.

According to a Hulshof release, both will serve “in volunteer capacities,” making it unclear how extensive each man’s activities will be.

Arguably, the key thing their alliance does: take Smith and Van Eaton out of any possible orbit for Hulshof’s Republican rival for governor, state Treasurer Sarah Steelman.

Smith long has been a top aide to U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson, R-Cape Girardeau. He has become politically prominent because of his roles as consultant/campaign manager/state director for the Missouri efforts of President George W. Bush and former Sen. Jim Talent, R-Mo.

Van Eaton long has been a top governmental or campaign aide to U.S. Sen. Kit Bond, R-Mo. Van Eaton has been transitioning lately to a political consultant role, taking on such Bond objectives as the now-defunct presidential bid of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Said Hulshof in a statement:
“I am honored that two key strategists like Lloyd and Jason are joining our team,” Hulshof said.  “Leaders of their caliber will enhance our ability to effectively communicate our common sense conservative message with Missourians.”

Once he brings Crazy Ed “Bunch of Mexcians” Martin on will know the cloning process has been complete and that the Congressman formerly known as Kenny Hulshof will now be Baby Blunt Jr.

Lloyd Smith lost Talent’s last campaign and VanEaton’s never won one. Great choices lazy Kenny. Don’t start having your mail foward to the Governor’ s mansion just yet.

Mock if you will, DV, but the fact is, “Baby Blunt Jr.” has won two statewide races. Van Eaton works for Bond, who has won a few himself. And Smith works for Emerson, who is also a winner. How many elections have YOU won?

I seriously doubt Bond would say that he won soley because of Json VanEaton who no one’s heard of outside Bond’s staff. BBJ got out of this race because he knew he was going to prison. Plain and simple. Defend him all you want but the truth is going to come out sooner than later.

Why is Baby Blunt going to prison?

Let’s drop the allegations against the governor. That’s not what this thread is about.

Getting back to the actual post (thanks Jo for keeping us on task)… I am really excited to see Lloyd and Jason getting involved. Their experience in statewide elections will definitely be an asset to Hulsof. As far as discrediting Lloyd by the 2006 Talent race - I don’t think that’s fair. Let’s be honest - 2006 wasn’t a great year for Republicans and Senator McCaskill only won with 50%. It’s interesting how posters on this blog seem to forget 2002 when Lloyd helped Talent do the impossible in Missouri - defeat a Carnahan.
I’ve been reading these posts for awhile and it seems that no matter who Kenny or Sarah pick to work on their campaigns - something negative is going to be said about them.
Finally, a couple of things come to mind when I see these posts - first the complete void of logic (as far as I know I don’t recall Lloyd and Van Eaton working for Matt Blunt and I’m pretty sure Ed Martin’s name hasn’t even surfaced in any article on the Hulshof campaign. Linking Hulshof and Blunt as the same person is like linking Nixon and Holden as the same person. They hold the many of the same party beliefs but would likely govern differently.) But the second thing is I want to what do you all do for jobs that allow you guys to post in the middle of the afternoon? Sign me up for sure! 203 days left…

r. chris, Thanks for adding some balance to some of these posts. Why is it that so many bloggers get so nasty ? Aahhh, the cloak of anonymity.

Perhaps if real names were required, verified, and included along with each blog posting, it would eliminate the outrageous lies and slanderous accusations that frequently make their way onto these postings. Scary thought, huh people?

Must one even wonder why our chldrens’ schools are filled with bullies? We need look no further than the parents… Grow up already.
