Will autism emotion return?

When the House debated the tax credit/school voucher bill last week during a late night session, the House chambers were full of emotion as supporters of the bill — which in this year’s version would aim to help autistic children – urged the body to get behind special-needs children.

I thought of that debate this morning while reading colleague Mary Jo Feldstein’s piece on the business of autism insurance. It turns out that in Missouri, much medical care needed by autistic children isn’t covered by insurance.

So I wonder, when the bill comes up to change that, and Missouri’s powerful insurance lobby objects, will the debate in the House be as emotional? That will be interesting to watch.
