Wright-Jones pays for old mistake

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

A few years ago, somebody was cleaning out State Rep. Robin Wright-Jones’ garage and inadvertently tossed some campaign finance documents.

It turned out to be a costly mistake.

The delay in filing, and associated late fees, is the reason the campaign is giving for a $1,700 payment to the Ethics Commission recorded on her campaign’s latest financial disclosure sheet - filed on time this week.

Wright-Jones, now running for State Senate, can recover some of that money at an April 28 fundraiser at Gene Lynn’s, the Central West End jazz bar now run by Alderman Marlene Davis.

Interestingly enough, the host committee for the fundraiser includes Kim Gardner, a city prosecutor who is taking on State Rep. Jamilah Nasheed, a key ally of Rodney Hubbard, one of Wright-Jones’ opponents in the Democratic primary.

And, for even more symmetry, there’s this: Joining Gardner on the host committee is political veteran Arthur “Chink” Washington, who is facing a challenge from blogger Antonio French — Hubbard’s campaign manager — for 21st Ward Committeeman.

Looks like the battle lines are firmly drawn.
