As reported on the Mother Ship this morning, the Post-Dispatch is in possession of an audio recording of the meeting in which Scott Eckersley was fired by Ed Martin. Read the full story online.

Attached is the actual clip from the section in which Martin admits receiving e-mails from Eckersley. WARNING: The audio clip contains expletives.

So… Eckersley records a conversation… secretly I’m sure.

Then while in trial… actually several trials are going on, the Post ‘gets a copy’

I wonder how exactly… well of course, you won’t say, and we the readers are just suppose not to ask. But do we need to?

Not really… because you go and ‘tell us’ by then printing what you want us to think about the tape… about what it means. I quote:

“But Eckersley and his attorney, Jeff Bauer of Garner, Strong and Bauer in Springfield, Mo., say the meaning is obvious.

“I think it’s consistent with everything Scott has said from the beginning,” Bauer said. “There’s no question in my mind given the context and the statement that he’s talking about Sunshine Law.”

So the Post enters the suit supporting Eckersley’s side.

So, not happy with their chances in court, Eckersley takes his complaints to the public, or more precisely YOU take his case to the public.

YOU tell the public that THEY THINK this tape makes their case. You print it as fact. Do you say that? No, not at all… but your backing and approval of Eckersley’s case is at least as clear as the topic of the meeting on tape is the emails

Can we say ‘tampering’?

Tony, you’ve come of age here at the Post. You have their writing style down cold, you know just how to take the anti-GOP side of any story, without coming out and saying it.

Great Job! I see a great and long future for you at the Post… as long as they can still afford to print that is.

How about a transcript…

Missourians and Americans in general are sick and tired of public corruption! A free press is a check on corrupt governments and many other things. Great job Tony. Public servants serve the people, and they should be held to account for their actions. What Scott Eckersley did was challenge an unlawful directive from his superiors. He did the right thing! If the evidence in these cases are justly presented those responsible for destroying public records should be prosecuted accordingly.

A transcript would be nice, however, the Post did not go out and manufacture this tape, nor did Eckersley (as far as we know now).

All this does is point up the continuing arrogant ineptitude of the Blunt Administration. If your desires are out of step with the rules and standards and practices, then ignore them.

the irony is that Gov. Blunt has now appointed the same Ed Martin to yet another state board. Perhaps Mr. Martin found he could not make a honest living in the private sector.

The contents of the tape do not change based on who sent it.

I would be interested in the mostly irrelevant fact of what physical format the original came in — Tony wrote “tape.” Is it indeed a tape, like a microcassette? Also, I assume we are getting a snippet of the full recording. Is that correct?

Tsquare, I hope you were equally appalled when Blunt’s office sent out a box of material to more than one media outlet supposedly related to a personnel issue involving Mr. Eckersley, namely his firing. But I will say, for a lawyer with a recording device concealed on his person, Eckersey failed to make a very compelling case for himself in the part of the tape available here. It does seem consistent with what Eckersley’s story has been all along, however to leak the tape without the benefit of context provided by other evidence seems like mostly a waste of time.

You have to remember, we haven’t seen any of the administration emails that would augment and corrobarate Eckersley’s claims. And as long as Blunt and Company continue to misuse state resources and obstruct the independent investigation, we won’t see any emails. Blunt should resign now and save the citizens of Missouri the cost of prosecuting his crimes.

Intentional e-mail destruction after being told that it was illegal do destroy and after they were requested under the sunshime law?

Wow, it is unbelievable that anyone cannot see the corruption on the part of our Governor and his staff. Are they suppose to be above the law, or is it just that some people are so foolish in that they think that because these one’s are public officials that somehow that mean that they are honest and honorable. I guess some do not believe truth, that man is hopelessly evil and corrupted in heart, this truth concerns all mankind no matter how that man is packaged.

These people had no conscience about how their unjust and corrupt actions would affect Mr. Eckersley’s life. It was not important to these people. It was only important to get one with ethics from among them. Corrupted, evil people hate to be in company of ones who are not their kind. It would have been too much to bear in discomfort keeping this man with morals and ethics around.

I am not suprised at all and neither should anyone else be. I am very familiar with such behavior by ones who are entrusted with responsibilities that they abuse and where other higher ups with even more power only cover-up their crimes and abuses.

How could anyone with a conscience or decency defend the actions of Governor Blunt and his staff.

The one thing for certain, no corrupt, wicked and evil actions stay hidden, they all one day will be exposed and seen in the light, even sometimes years later when one think that they have gotten away with these things. The timing is always at the right time. God’s timing.

And in this case Mr. Martin actually cursed himself with his remarks of not caring about any revelations from God?

D Walker wrote “And in this case Mr. Martin actually cursed himself with his remarks of not caring about any revelations from God?”

I just thought that was a slap in the face of Eckersly’s LDS beliefs. From what I understand, Mormons were the butt of jokes quite often in the Blunt administration.

It’s amazing to think what would be going on in the governor’s office had there been no Eckersley. This guy has some freakin guts to go ahead and expose Blunt and the administration for thier underhanded and illegal exploits, all the while enduring a hailstorm of slander and false accusations! There are alot of people involved in forcing a little light into the dark dealings of our crooked governor, and thank goodness for thier willingness to do the right thing! They’re standing up for the law and relentlessly seeking truth–even if by legal force! And Eckersley– none of this would’ve come about if it weren’t for him raising his voice when he knew something was wrong! This guy has been fighting since September to not only bring some justice and light to the OBVIOUS wrongdoings and illegal actions of the head of Missouri government, but to reclaim the good name and reputation that the office trampled on with a load of invented accusations and false rumors! Eckersley proved to be stronger and more willing to stand up for what was right than they bargained for, which sent the governor’s office scrambling for any dirt they could find to discredit him….and when they couldn’t find any, they got creative. Since then, every rumor has been VERIFIED FALSE, these advisors have been “re-assigned,” and Blunt himself has stepped out of the re-election running! If anyone turns out to benefit from these events politically, Blunt has only himself to blame.
So, “TSQUARE,” give us a break with the GOP fiddle and your “shady tape leaking” accusations…leave the inventing to Blunt. The tapes are legal so stop the whining and start listening with half a brain. Tony’s article was pretty clear cut and even in representing both sides. If the governor’s side comes off a little weak, you can’t always blame the press. When you come to grips with the fact that Blunt is dead wrong here on every count, and backing Eckersley’s case is the only smart conclusion one can draw from all of this, then you might not look so blindsided when this hits trial and your precious republican governor goes to jail. Thanks for not laying down Eckersley! Keep up the good work with whatever they throw at you next!
