UPDATE: AFL-CIO endorses Wright-Jones, St. Onge
Other than the governor’s race, the Missouri AFL-CIO offered its endorsement in a variety of other state races today. Notably missing from the endorsement category is the race for attorney general, where three Democrats with union backing are seeking the seat. Also, the AFL-CIO didn’t endorse in the crowded Ninth District race for Congress.
But the union offered its support for a variety of other state offices, including: Clint Zweifel for treasurer, Sam Page for Lieutenant Governor, and in the state Senate: Joan Barry (1st); Dennis Riche (3rd); Robin Wright-Jones (5th); Neal St. Onge (7th); Yvonne Wilson (9th); Victor Callahan (11th); Tim Green (13th); Sandra Aust (17th); Chuck Graham (19th); Tom Dempsey (23rd); Linda Sanders (27th); Chris Benjamin (31st); and Eric Reeve (33rd).
UPDATE: In my rush to the Web, I neglected a few other endorsements from the AFL-CIO. For Congress: William Lacy Clay, Mike Garman, Russ Carnahan, Ike Skelton, Emanuel Cleaver II, Kay Barnes and Jo Ann Emerson. For Missouri House: Keri Cottrell, Rebecca McClanahan, Mike Hepler, Mike Waltemath, Rachel Bringer, Harry Wyse, Tom Shively, Paul Quinn, Terry Witte, Ed Schieffer, Kelly Schultz, Gail Brown, Stephen Webber, Chris Kelly, Joe Aull, Ed Wildberger, Mark Sheehan, and Martin Rucker.

Any House endorsements?
Chalk one up for Koster.
I am completely shocked that all but one (Emerson doesn’t count) of the endorsements were democrats. An here I thought the AFL-CIO was bipartisan. I understand now it was bipolar.
Jason,
Aren’t Dempsey and St. Onge both Republicans? Some of the other candidates (like Bringer, Joe Aull, Weber, Wildberger, Rucker etc) do not have Republican opponents. So your comments are exaggerated.
That being said, unions do often endorse Democrats. But why shouldn’t they? Democrats are more supportive of union issues and the working class.
The AFL-CIO would be bipolar if it endorsed candidates who opposed their issues. This list is no surprise if you look at the issues of the AFL-CIO and the voting records of Missouri’s politicians.
Mike Garman strikes me as an… interesting choice for an endorsement. The AFL-CIO don’t often endorse in primaries at the federal level unless the candidate only has token opposition.
St.Onge = RINO (Republican in name only) pure and simple.
By the way, we had the scoop on Garman this morning: http://blog.showmeprogress.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=1106
Missed Dempsey - so they endorsed 2 republicans.
Unions are for the working class just like the democrats are - yeah right. They both take advantage of the working class all the while saying “trust me”.
Like a Senator from SEMO would say - Unions and democrats promise working class people the corn but slip ‘em the cobb.
So butcherfan92, who made you the arbiter of who is a Republican? You seem to toss the RINO label around. It seems to me that St. Onge is a logical endorsement for the AFL-CIO. He chairs Transportation, which is overseeing a lot of MoDOT work in the St. Louis area. The Highway 40/64 project is about $500,000,000 worth of work in our metro. St. Onge’s pitch for the Mississippi Bridge is going to bring a similar amount. That’s a lot of jobs for workers and a boost for our economy. What have the other candidates done for anyone, union or not?
Worm, you’re on target.
I do some lobbying and it’s well known that one of the 7th District candidates won’t even talk with union people. That’s not exactly the sort of demeanor ANYONE would want in a senator.
Apparently JasonB forgot to read this story when writing “Chalk on up for Koster”. It doesn’t look like the AFL-CIO offered any endorsements in the AG race today.
