Blunt blasts California “gay marriage” ruling

Amid the mayhem in the state Capitol, Gov. Matt Blunt is weighing in on the California Supreme Court ruling that struck down a state gay-marriage ban.

“I am extremely disappointed, but not surprised, that the California Supreme Court has thwarted the will of the people by allowing gay marriage in their state. This is just the latest example of unelected judges legislating from the bench and reinforces the need for a constitutional protection at the highest level,” Blunt said in an e-release.

“I believe that marriage is between one man and one woman and in 2004 stood with the majority of Missourians to protect traditional marriage by defining marriage as between one man and one woman in our state’s constitution.

“We are standing on a precipice where traditional values are being mocked by unelected judges. We must protect the sanctity of marriage by supporting an amendment to the U.S. Constitution.”

This way Blunt can appear strong by talking about something in a state other than his own. God forbid he should show the same passion say for the disappearance of medical care in rural Missouri due mainly to his “MedicAid Reform”.

This is a one-size fits all thing for Blunt, I guess. He can bash California, bash gay marriage, and bash the judicial selection system all in one press release.

The thing is the California thing doesn’t affect Missouri at all. (Just like one person’s gay marriage does not affect my “straight” marriage.) Missourian’s amended their constitution, something they did not do–but are now proposing–in California. It was just voter initiated state statute.

As far as amending the US Constitution–I don’t see it happening. I think people look at state constitution’s as relative fluff, but hold the US Constitution in much higher regard despite their terror over the thought of two guys kissing.

Would Blunt feel differently if he had a gay family member?

I am in favour of mandatory same-sex marriage.

I believe that the government should simply assign a same-sex partner for marriage at the age of 25 if a person is not already gay-married by that age.

Same-sex divorce would be a possibility, but the laws should be changed to ensure that a divorce does not occur in any gay marriage for at least five years, and should order the parties to make every effort to work it out.

Marrying an opposite sex person should still be permissible, but only after giving a good college try to a gay marriage for at least a five year period. Prior to engaging in an “opposite sex” marriage of any sort, a person would first have to show that they made every effort to make their same-sex marriage work before filing for same-sex divorce.

Mandatory gay marriage — an idea whose time has come!

6 out of the 7 California Supreme Court Judges are Republicans appointed by Republicans.

I wish Blunt felt as strong about the “will of the people” when Missourians defeated “Conceal and Carry”.

Mandatory Tony brings up an intersting scenario. Suppose you lived in a state that didn’t allow hetrosexual marriages…No healthcare for your wife Tony…Get over it, you abnormal disgusting pervert.

Thank you Governor Blunt for standing up for traditional marriage.. Actually the only one that is valid. Although the state may condone and encourage ‘alternate’ marriage, in the eyes of God and those who believe the Scriptures, marriage between 1 man and 1 woman is the only one that is valid.

I believe that the stand of Governor Blunt is the majority outside of the St Louis city limits.

Ted Power- I was unaware that 6 of the CA justices are Repubs. That’s pretty funny.
I do know the judges are approved by the voters, though, so they really aren’t “unelected.” Boy Blunt can’t be bothered by the facts, I guess.
