Connie Johnson: Life goes on

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

State Rep. Connie Johnson, who was tossed off the State Senate ballot this week, told supporters today that her future is uncertain.

“I am sure you know by now that the trial court ruled to remove my name from the ballot because I moved out of my house for a few months in order to address some issues for my family during a medical crisis,” Johnson writes in an e-mail.

“Please know that while taking care of my family is my number one priority, so is representing my constituency. For the past 8 years, I have represented you and lived in the area in which I served. My commitment to the residents of the 61st district remains loyal and I plan to fulfill my commitment until the expiration of my term.”

While Johnson has appealed the verdict, she concedes that time might make it difficult to succeed - the Secretary of State has until May 27 to certify the ballot.

Johnson, however, is pleased at the fight she put up. “My only regret in this process is that people did not have the fortitude to fight me without trying to drag my family through the mud,” Johnson said.

Johnson, barred by term limits from running for the House again, today faces the end of what will be, for now at least, her last legislative session.

“I do not know what the future holds, but I know who holds the future. Life is too short and it definitely goes on,” Johnson writes. “When God closes a door, He always opens a window! It has truly been a pleasure serving you!”

This is completely ridiculous! If she was a man or white her name would never have been removed from the ballot. We haven’t progressed as well as most thought after all! It is such a terrible thing helping your family out these days…maybe they will face the same challenges Johnson is facing soon!

Someone should file a Bar Complaint against her for trying to mislead the court. As an attorney she has a duty to act professionally and ethically. Her lies should lead to her disbarment.

Billybob -
quit the pathetic whining. This has nothing to do with her race or gender, it’s about where she LIVES. If she was a man, she’d be your uncle and not your aunt.

epit–maybe you’ll face similar circumstances with your family’s health problems in the near future…some other notable white men all got away with living outside their district temporarily…go figure…racism and sexism is alive and well in the Lou!

Billybob, she could have helped her mother and kept her residency where it was … if she hadn’t rented out her house, changed her address with the post office, and started using her new address in official business. Her problem isn’t that she’s black, her problem is that she’s dumb.

At least Robin has a chance now. Does connie have to give hubbard back the money he gave her to split the ticket?
