State Rep. Connie Johnson, who was tossed off the State Senate ballot this week, told supporters today that her future is uncertain.
“I am sure you know by now that the trial court ruled to remove my name from the ballot because I moved out of my house for a few months in order to address some issues for my family during a medical crisis,” Johnson writes in an e-mail.
“Please know that while taking care of my family is my number one priority, so is representing my constituency. For the past 8 years, I have represented you and lived in the area in which I served. My commitment to the residents of the 61st district remains loyal and I plan to fulfill my commitment until the expiration of my term.”
While Johnson has appealed the verdict, she concedes that time might make it difficult to succeed - the Secretary of State has until May 27 to certify the ballot.
Johnson, however, is pleased at the fight she put up. “My only regret in this process is that people did not have the fortitude to fight me without trying to drag my family through the mud,” Johnson said.
Johnson, barred by term limits from running for the House again, today faces the end of what will be, for now at least, her last legislative session.
“I do not know what the future holds, but I know who holds the future. Life is too short and it definitely goes on,” Johnson writes. “When God closes a door, He always opens a window! It has truly been a pleasure serving you!”
