Foreshadowing the filibuster to come?

Sen. Chris Koster, D-Raymore, was just walking out of the Senate chambers to take a phone call during a minor procedural vote when his name was called to vote. He turned to inquire what the vote was about, and Sen. Jason Crowell, R-Cape Girardeau, offered a telling quip:

“It’s the voter ID vote, senator,” Crowell said, to many guffaws. (It was not the Voter ID measure).

The laughter was more intense to the response offered by Sen. Brad Lager, R-Maryville, who is presiding at the moment: “He already voted for it once.”

Ouch. Koster, who was a Republican at the time, backed the controversial Voter Photo ID measure two years ago. The issue is back on the radar screen because of a Supreme Court decision declaring that Indiana’s Voter ID measure is constitutional.

It’s widely believed that Democrats will filibuster the measure if it makes it to the Senate floor. It could be the showdown of the session. And where will Koster stand?
