Gephardt: Bush worst president. Ever

COLUMBIA — Retired U.S. Rep. Richard A. Gephardt touched off three standing ovations at the state Democratic Party’s convention Saturday as he ripped into the Republican occupying the White House.

George Bush is, by far, the worst person who’s ever been president of the United States,” said Gephardt, for 28 years D-St. Louis County, and who made two unsuccessful bids for the White House himself.

When he ran for president in 2004, Gephardt recalled, “I called (Bush) a ‘miserable failure…and some took umbrage.”

Now, Gephardt continued, “He has totally messed it up…even Republicans will agree that he messed it up.”

Gephardt then roared: “Gasoline is $4 a gallon, on its way to $8 a gallon, and this man sits there, clueless!”

Gephardt supports Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton for president, but made clear in his speech that all Democrats must unite behind whoever gets the nomination.

He made no critical comments about her rival, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill. “I think she’s a great candidate and would make a great president…But I also believe we have two great candidates for president of the United States.”

“Some people say this primary has gone on too long, but I’m not one of them,” Gephardt said. Still, “when the primaries are done…this party has to come together and unify like it never has.”

So even Dick Gephardt, who ought to know better, believes that the President of the United States is single-handedly responsible for the price of gasoline?

Thank God Tricky Dick never became president, himself! You’d think 28 years in Congress would teach him SOMETHING about the way the world works.

Maybe not.

Bush has been a mediocre President, to be sure. But the worst ever? Nope. Not even the worst in my lifetime. Perhaps Congressman Gephardt has forgotten that under another recent President, we had 12% inflation, and nearly 8% unemployment. We had an energy crisis, with people lining up to buy gasoline. Oil was at a price level that wasn’t reached again until this month - and that was before surging demand from developing nations pushed world prices upward. And we were the laughingstock of the world. Yes, Bush has been mediocre. But President Carter was just plain bad.

And the funny thing is that Pres. Carter seems to wants to keep reminding the world how much of an idiot he really is. Bush is not the greatest President, but at least he did accomplish some good things. His tax cuts were a brilliant way to boost the economy and his initial response to the terrorist attack was right on.

Hillary scares me because she has no principles and will do anything to win. Barak scares me because he could very well be a racist and is very friendly with a domestic terrorist.

Presidents are easily judged by current standards and trends. Their true contriubtions are more accurately judged in the context of history, which I have found to be far more unforgiving and true to form.

How many people derided Gerald Ford for pardoning Richard Nixon? Once he died, even Ted “I’ll Have Another” Kennedy called him a great leader who made tough decisions to heal the nation. The hypocracy (sp) of such people as Kennedy is almost laughable.

So who cares what the Red Head from South City has to say? Ticky Dicky Gephardt has no influence and even less common sense.

Let’s see now….. who is it that occupies the U.S. House and Senate? Anybody see a pattern here? Who is it that continuously blocks drilling for oil in Alaska and offshore? Surely it couldn’t be the Dems who cater to the environmentalists and who want all of us to walk to work while they jet around in their cushy seats enjoying themselves! Who is it that caters to the terrorists by welcoming them with open arms to “sit down and visit about our differences in the hopes we can work everything out”?
George Bush the worst President ever? You’ve got to be kidding!! I thank God every day is was George Bush at the helm when our country was attacked on 9/11, and it was he who stepped up to the plate to protect our country. Have any Dems noticed that we have not been attacked on our shores since that awful day? Could we say the same if Gore, Carter, Gephardt, Obama or Clinton were at the helm?
It’s too bad we can’t group all the liberals together in one section of the country and let them wine and dine the terrorists while the rest of us who understand the importance of protecting our shores could continue believing in our service men and women and the protection they have secured for us. The Dems can party; we’ll take a President who knows how to protect us!!
Dickie needs to look for new employment, like cleaning up the aftermath if the Dems are successful in November!

Let’s see I’ll pick a few highlights from the past horrible seven years.

1) Iraq: Attacked by Saudis funded by a madman in Afghanistan. The genius invades Iraq of course. Splitting the focus of a small army. Wasn’t a two front war a proved a bad idea by Napoleon?

2) Appointments: The real tricky Dick,Alberto Gonzales,Brown(FEMA). Best news in the past month Bush is going to form a think tank when he leaves office. Remember when NASA wasn’t allowed to put out global warming studies or mention the big bang.

3) Energy Policy : Jim he’s not the only one responsible for gas prices. Bernanke who he appointed also shares the blame. CAFE standards never being raised doesn’t help.

4) 9/11 and Katrina: Reading “My Pet Goat” and staying on vacation what leadership!!!

I’ve noticed even his defenders here are rather subdued. Everyone wants Bush to go back to his fake ranch with his fake cowboy hat and disappear.
Even McCain would be an improvement. Herbert Hoover just moved up a notch in history.

The most frightful thing about this thread is that there are still people willing to publicly and vigorously defend Bush — even with the benefit of hindsight. For heaven’s sake folks, he marched the country into a disastrous military conflict for reasons that turned out not to be true. That alone should qualify him as “the worst president ever.” But there’s so much more. Collectively, Bush’s policies have almost single-handedly ushered in the post-Americanism era. The rest of the world has passed us by while we squabble over commonly accepted things like universal health care or whether man-made climate change is real.

I guess it really doesn’t matter how people perceive Bush at this point. His presidency is effectively over. The damage is done. It’s just endlessly fascinating to me that people can look at him even today, knowing what we now know, and still see a wise and strong leader.

What surprises me about this thread is that there are still people out there that despise our country and our President. The Beatnik is the best of the bunch.

1. Tell me why our army is so small… Could it be that slick Willy stripped down the military in the 90’s?

2. You have the nerve to bring up appointments. First off, Ashcroft was well quality AG, and you forced him out. Gonzalez may have not been the greatest, but you were just waiting to find another reason to force him out. No AG could be as bad as Reno, but I’m sure you’ll give her a pass. Now how about all those judicial appointments your buddies have held. Partisan politics by your party has obstructed this administration to a laughable extent. You should be ashamed.

3. True oil prices are high. But you should also compare it to the 70’s. We’re nowhere near that level (taking inflation into account). We don’t have gas lines. Actually, you should be happy about the high prices since it will incent more people to conserve.

4. On vacation during 9/11? Give me a break, you dweeb. Katrina? Do you forget who messed that situation up? The Democratic leadership of New Orleans and Louisiana were to blame there. You can’t call the President stupid, when you show so much of your own ignorance.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s not the best President ever. He’s behaved much like a Democrat lately (spend, spend, spend). McCain probably will be in the same league, but anything will be better than Obama or Clinton.

And Think|’s response to anyone critical of Bush’s policies is the same one we’ve seen for the last eight years: hurling insults and name calling.

In the minds of those who still support Bush there’s only one possibility for anyone who points out the demonstrable failures of his presidency. We “despise our country and our President.” It was an effective tactic to keep people silent for awhile but for those who now suffer the very real consequences of Bush’s policies it no longer packs the same punch it once did.
