Good day for a political birthday

If you’re the son or daughter of a Missouri politician, you’re probably having a good day, today.

Michael Steelman, youngest son of Treasurer Sarah Steelman, received a new rifle today purchased at Ammo Alley in Hartsburg where his mom made a campaign stop in her run for governor to announce her strong support of the Second Amendment. (No word yet from fellow Republican Kenny Hulshof on when he’ll be purchasing a reciprical weapon for his daughters).

And of course, tonight on the Comedy Channel, Sen. Claire McCaskill will be appearing on the Stephen Colbert Report. McCaskill says the visit was arranged as a birthday gift to her daughter, a fan of the show.

And if you’re wondering about the Colbert Bump that we here at Political Fix suggested might be in play on tonight’s show, check this out. Apparently, the theory has some legs.

Is anyone else getting visions of Dukakis in a tank when they read this story? Think about the conversation with the clerk, “Look at me, I support the Second Amendment.” “That’s a ‘BB’ gun Ms. Steelman.”

I like Steelman. I think she’s spunky. And this is really a cute little press-grab. I just wish she had any sort of policy credentials. Other than our terror-free investments in the state, it just seems like she isn’t yet qualified to be our governor. Maybe in 4 years or so she would have had a good shot. I’m a lifelong Republican, always will be because I believe in small government and in government getting the heck out of people’s way. I know she believes the same thing, but I don’t think she’s qualified yet. If this is the best thing she can do to show me her credentials then I think we’re in some trouble. I just met Hulshof a couple of weeks ago and the guy just looks and sounds the part. I’ll be interested to see what kind of policy stuff he puts out, but on first glance, he just seems to be the type of guy we need running things.

Hulshof is just more of Blunt. If you want 4 or 8 more years of Blunt then vote for Hulshof. If you want someone who doesn’t do what the party always wants, someone who is independent then vote for Steelman!!!!

She should carry the publicity stunt a little farther…
Attend an all-white church service, place a “pro-life” bumber sticker on her car, and take her son to an anti-gay rally (without the gun).

Hopefully, Mikie knows how to handle a rifle and won’t shoot a fellow classmate a school!!

I’m just imagining how many outstate Republican hearts are swooning at this news!

The funny thing about this is that I buy Steelman being stronger on guns and being an actual gun owner than Hulshof. I just can’t see a dainty little thing like him owning or shooting a gun.

Great photo op
